What am I giving to?

CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Tommy. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Tommy. When you give a gift through Tommy's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Tommy. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Meet Tommy! Tommy is a 14 year old boy and is Linet’s third born child. Tommy has five siblings in total. Linet is a stay at home mum but when she can, she works as a casual labourer to try and provide for her family.

When Tommy was born, he didn’t have any birth defect. In fact he brought so much joy to his parents as he was Linet’s first male child. As he grew up and started walking, Linet noticed something different with how Tommy walked compared to her other two children. It didn’t bother her much and so she didn’t seek medical intervention. A few years later, when Tommy was five, his legs became severely bowed. At this point, Linet became very concerned but due to financial constraints, there was nothing she could do for her boy.

A year passed and one of the legs seemed to miraculously correct itself. Tommy’s right leg was no longer curved. The left one however, became worse, it even started turning backwards. People from Tommy’s village begun talking. They said really bad and painful things to hear.

One of Linet’s friends who had heard about CURE Kenya and seen a child who had been healed told her of a mobile clinic very near their home. Linet was advised to bring Tommy and that is where their journey with CURE Kenya began. Tommy and Linet are at CURE now and they hope that by the time they are done, Tommy will be able to walk normally like all his friends. “I have nothing to give to show how I am grateful to you (CURE) and God for providing so my son can get help.” A very emotional Linet told us. Please pray for the surgery Tommy is scheduled to have to be successful.

Tommy is finally able to walk and even got some sunshine earlier today during his physiotherapy session. He's been recuperating well and his progress was reiterated by his mom, Linet. She was encouraging Tommy to even go further just to make him get used to the crutches. We thank God for how far he's come. Photo of Tommy

After his pin alignment session for today was over, Tommy wrote down these messages just to thank you for having him and his mother in your thoughts. "We are so happy and glad for the support you have given us." "We would like to thank you face to face but it's not possible." "We request you to still support & pray for us especially me (Tommy) for a quick recovery." "We didn't know that we could get support from you but it (my condition) had just happened unfortunately. May God bless you together with your families" We do appreciate your continued support for Tommy and his mom. Photo of Tommy

We shared your Get Well messages with Tommy and his mom and they were so grateful to know that you have them in your thoughts and hearts. Tommy will still be under observation for one more day and he might be discharged soon to continue to recover at home. Tommy told us that he has something for you once he gets home! That definitely sparked our curiosity and look forward to seeing what it would be! Photo of Tommy

Tommy and his mother came by for a follow-up and Tommy’s knee needed to be aligned better with pins. Since then, he has been recovering in the ward with his mom Linet, who had so much hope in Tommy’s healing. We caught up with them earlier today as they spent some time together in the ward. We thank God for bringing us this far! Photo of Tommy

Good news! Tommy and his mother, Linet gave their lives to Jesus Christ!! With CURE Kenya's Pastor Emmy, from our spiritual staff, they both said the prayer of faith and are now born-again! Pastor. Emmy later on cam to prayed with them and give them their very own bibles to help them start this new journey of following Christ! Also, Tommy is still hanging out here at CURE Kenya so the medical staff can keep an eye on him, but he should be going home soon! Photo of Tommy

Tommy and Wendy’s (another CUREkid) mums have become such great buddies since they both came to CURE Kenya. They call upon each other to assist when their kids need to be moved or when they need to change position. They spend hours together talking about a wide range of topics. We love when the family's of our patients form community and support each other through their shared experiences. Tommy is doing well with his recovery and hopes he can go home soon. In this picture, Linet and Eunice were exchanging numbers so that they can communicate better when they do get discharged! Photo of Tommy

The engineer himself managed a smile today, a sure sign of slow improvement. He went back to the OR today to have a cast put on his leg. Previously, he had just a dressing to allow the nurses and doctors to closely monitor how the surgical wound is behaving. We thank God for every little thing that is happening to Tommy as it contributes to his transformation in the end! Photo of Tommy

Tommy’s bummed out face is as a result of some post-op discomfort. However, he is a strong young man who, through the pain, is still helping his mom make the bed and keep their area of the ward clean. Please be praying for Tom’s healing process to be smooth and him to be feeling better and better as we continue! Photo of Tommy

When we saw Tommy this morning, he was a bit worried about going to the OR. We prayed with him and not long afterwards a nurse came and asked to take him in. It was scary, but Tommy is now one step closer to having a fully functional, straight left leg! Photo of Tommy

“I want to be an engineer when I grow up” Tommy told us. We asked him what kind of engineer he wants to be but he's keeping his options open for the time being. We will help him learn the different types of engineers so he can decide what kind he would love to be. Thank you for your prayers and gifts as he starts his road to healing here at CURE Kenya!
