What am I giving to?

CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Faith. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Faith. When you give a gift through Faith's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Faith. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Faith's Story

“One time Faith told me that she wants to be a Makanga (the person who leans out of public buses letting everyone know where the bus is going and trying to convince potential passengers to take their bus) but since she came here (CURE), she has changed and wants to be a nurse!” says Mary, Faith's mother, with a chuckle.

Faith grew up healthy up until the age of three, when her family noticed she was having trouble walking. Her knees were bending inwards and knocking into each other as she walked. Their local hospital couldn’t find any sickness but due to the pain, the doctor recommended hot stones for her spine alignment. With no other options, Faith's family gave it a shot with no results.

Back home, Faith's physical condition started to have emotional impacts. She became aloof and distanced herself from other people. She eventually dropped out of school.

The head teacher at the school she dropped out of happened to be a Catholic nun. She got concerned and asked about Faith’s absence and eventually visited them at home. Fortunately, this sister knew about us here at CURE Kenya. They talked about the services we offer and Mary was motivated to pursue treatment for Faith's legs.

Faith and her parents gather the funds and were finally able make the trip here to our hospital. Faith's father dropped them off and had to return home to continue to look after their other child as Faith remained with Mary. Please welcome them as they patiently wait and hope for a successful surgery!

We were lucky to have caught up with Faith and her mother before they went home. She was able to read the get-well-messages you have all sent to her with her mother looking on, shedding a tear of joy, "We thank you so much for your continued support and encouraging messages. Our stay here was truly blessed." Faith's next appointment will be in six weeks! Please join us in thanking God for getting Faith this far! Photo of Faith

Today Faith and her mother were all smiles. After yesterday's visit from the plaster technician, Faith is now able to wiggle all her toes! The nurse came back to check for her temperature and heart rate just to confirm blood is flowing normally to her right leg. This is a huge positive in Faith's recovery. Please thank God with us! Faith had a successful surgery on her right leg that straighten her knock knee! She will need another surgery for her left leg, but we won't think about that until she's healed up from this surgery. Here she was resting in the OR recovery bed before being taken back to the ward to be with her mother. We are thankful for this big step forward! Photo of Faith

Faith and her mother were in high spirits as they settled in to the ward and got ready for surgery. Mary shared this with us. “One time Faith told me that she wants to be a Makanga (the person who leans out of public buses letting everyone know where the bus is going and trying to convince potential passengers to take their bus) but since she came here, she has changed and wants to be a nurse!” We are looking forward to a successful surgery!
