CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Doreen. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Doreen. When you give a gift through Doreen's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Doreen. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“Doreen covers a maximum of 4 kilometres everyday to school and back home. She gets very tired and sometimes she even complains of pain in her leg.” Egla, Doreen’s mum told us.

Doreen is a 10 year old girl with a dream of becoming a teacher when she grows up. Her favourite subject is Kiswahili and her mum tells us that she does very well in the same.

Doreen was born with this deformity but the mum noticed when she started crawling. Egla could see that Doreen’s foot was curved but she didn’t know what to do. Many people advised her to take her daughter to hospital so they can begin treatment, which she did. A few years into the treatment process, Egla couldn’t see any difference. She decided to stop it as she was spending money without any benefit.

In 2019, someone got wind of a CURE Kenya mobile clinic happening really close to their home and rushed to tell Egla about it. The friend explained to Egla that she had heard good things about the hospital and that some of the people who had taken their children had gotten the help they needed. Egla decided to try and see if this was something that would bear fruit. She let her husband bring Doreen to the mobile clinic and he was told that she would need surgery.

Egla brought her daughter to CURE Kenya this week and is hopeful that Doreen will be healed. Please pray that Doreen will get a permanent solution to her current deformity and that all her dreams will come true afterwards.

Here is something to thank God for today, Doreen was able to eat well and she kept everything down. We are very happy about this and we are grateful to God. Doreen and her mum were also allowed to go home today. We spoke to Head Nurse Kellen earlier today and she told us that if a child has nausea, there is no way they can be allowed to go home after surgery. This also a reason to thank God because now Doreen will go ahead and recover at home. Before they left, Pastor Phillip was able to encourage them with the word of God and pray with them. We will see Doreen again in six weeks and we’ll tell you all about her progress. Photo of Doreen

It is very common for kids to feel extra nauseated when they come out of surgery. Doreen has been feeling that way for a while. She has not been able to eat very well and so Kate, a nurse here at CURE Kenya ,gave her something to take away the nausea. Please pray that Doreen will be able to eat something so that she can regain strength and ease the recovery process! Photo of Doreen

Doreen had surgery and we thank God that it was successful. Her mum seemed a bit worried as they were walking down the corridor that leads to the operating rooms. This is only natural considering the fact that her daughter had never had surgery before. She must have felt a huge relief when Doreen came out! Please continue praying for Doreen’s recovery process. Doreen looks so much like her mum and they have such a strong bond. This morning we made a joke about how kids will be responding to her when she becomes a teacher and she had fun imagining it. We will surely let you know how her operation goes! Photo of Doreen
