Beldine is a 15 year old girl who is in form three and is Irene’s 5th born child. She wants to be a news reporter when she is done with school.

Beldine was not born with any form of deformity according to Irene, her mum. She was born normal and it was exciting for her parents to see her go through most of her milestones growing up. Just like other kids, Beldine played with her siblings and assisted at home with chores. At some point, her mum noticed that her legs had started bowing. She did not do anything immediately because Beldine wasn’t in any pain.

Beldine’s problem got even worse and that’s where Irene and her husband decided that it was time for Beldine to be seen by a doctor. When they took her to hospital, they began the correction process through casting. Nothing was improving and so it was decided that Beldine needed surgery. The dad wanted surgery for both her legs to be done at the same time but the doctors thought that it wouldn’t be advisable to do that. Beldine’s left leg got corrected properly but she had to wait 6 years for the next surgery to be done.

Irene and her husband took their daughter to recover at home. Six years later, the person who made it possible for Beldine’s surgery to be done was no longer reachable. This left the family hopeless with nothing to do about their daughter’s treatment. A few years later, someone told baba Beldine about CURE Kenya and where to find us. “We were very happy to hear about CURE and so we tried our best to make it to the clinic location despite the distance.” Irene told us.

Irene has very high hopes that her daughter will be healed and that she will be normal again. They are at CURE Kenya now for Beldine’s surgery and we pray that God will meet all their prayer needs.

We were happy to see our friend Beldine and her mum at our mobile clinic near their home last week. Beldine is doing really well in her recovery process! At the clinic, her cast was taken off and her pins removed. She was supposed to have some light physical therapy done but because she has worn a cast for quite some time, it was hard for her to do the exercises. But this was expected and she will improve with time and practice! Please pray for Beldine as she learns how to use her newly straight leg! Photo of Beldine

We were not able to say bye to Beldine and her mum because they left for home over the weekend. We look forward to seeing them again in a few weeks. Thank you for your prayers and support both during their stay and while they are resting at home! Photo of Beldine

“I am okay. I just felt a lot of pain at night and wasn’t able to sleep well.” Beldine told us when we asked how she was doing. Beldine was in some pain through the night despite being given pain medication. Her pins were removed in the OR and now she has to wear this new cast for six weeks before we can take it off and start her physical therapy. She was a bit drowsy this morning so we encouraged her to sleep and rest after we prayed for her. Photo of Beldine

Beldine’s time to have her cast removed is here and she made it to CURE Kenya with her mum. She needs to go to the operating room as the pins in her leg will also need to be removed and that needs to be done under anesthesia. Thank God for this progress and please pray for a successful procedure! Photo of Beldine

Onesmus is one of the physiotherapists at CURE Kenya. Today, he had the responsibility of helping Beldine walk using crutches. This is to make it easier to move around even when she is at home. Beldine did so well today! We thank God for the progress she has made in her recovery. Photo of Beldine

Beldine's father gave his wife his mobile phone so that he could reach her while she was at the hospital with Beldine. Today, we found Beldine speaking on the phone with her dad. She was trying to explain to him what was happening and seemed excited to be able to connect with him. Beldine is doing well! She is managing the pain and is looking forward to doing some physiotherapy. Photo of Beldine

Beldine went to the operating room quite late yesterday. Her surgery was successful, and she came back to the ward only to find a heavy cast wrapped around her leg. Beldine told us that last night was good because she rested but also bad because she was in pain. It is very hard to tell that she is hurting because she has a smile on her face most times. Beldine will be with us for a while before she can go home. Please continue to pray for healing for Beldine. Photo of Beldine

Beldine and her mom have a wonderful friendship. Every time we visit, we find them talking, laughing, and having a good time. Beldine is waiting for surgery to straighten her right leg. Photo of Beldine
