What am I giving to?

CURE in Kenya

The picture above is of CURE in Kenya. Everyone who serves with CURE in Kenya, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Ruth. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Ruth. When you give a gift through Ruth's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Kenya. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Ruth. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“I was not shocked when Ruth was born because I too had clubfoot when I was little.” Edith, Ruth’s mum, told us.

Ruth, now 8 years old, is a third grade student who really loves math. We asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up but our new friend is quite shy, so her mum helped her by telling us what she once heard Ruth say. “She wants to be an engineer so I told her that she has to study really hard so she can be one.” Edith told us.

Ruth was born with two clubfeet and although this was quite different from her mum’s one clubfoot, it did not surprise Edith as much as it would any other mum. Edith started Ruth’s clubfoot correction process as soon as she could because she knew what would happen if nothing was done.

Mama Ruth was told by a physical therapists at a local hospital she used to take Ruth to that a hospital called CURE Kenya was having a mobile clinic in their town in a few days. Edith asked for some more information and was even skeptical about coming. She decided to come and try out this new hospital and see if her daughter would be helped.

Edith was told that Ruth would need surgery to correct her clubfoot as she had already gone past the age where less invasive methods would work.

Ruth is now here and her mum is hopeful that by the time they leave for home, her daughter will be healed. Please pray that Ruth has a safe and successful procedure and that Jesus heals her completely.

Ruth is back! She has to go to the OR once again for a cast change and we’re pretty sure she’s quite ready to be done with her OR trips. She’s not quite done as she’ll need to come back in a couple weeks for yet another one, but at least she has another warm blanket to look forward to like the one she enjoyed before going to the OR this morning! We’re hopeful she’ll head home tomorrow or Saturday! Photo of Ruth

One of the last things that happens before leaving CURE Kenya is having the IV port in your hand removed. Before Ruth left, Cate the nurse removed Ruth’s IV port and Ruth took it like a champ! There were no tears, just patient waiting. We’re so glad that things went well for Ruth and that she’s already heading home. Pray for safety for Ruth and her mom as they travel and as they come again a couple weeks! Photo of Ruth

Ruth is back for a cast change! As she waited, she and her mama spent time with the other mamas near their bed. We’re so thankful for all the relating that goes on around CURE Kenya. We can only imagine the healing and joy it must bring knowing that there are others going through similar situations as yours and also -- these same people help the time fly by! Photo of Ruth

Before Ruth could go to OR for her cast change, Pastor Phoebe, a chaplain here at CURE Kenya sat with her and her mum and they had a chat. Edith is saved and she loves Jesus as her personal saviour. She is very talented in singing and leads praise and worship in their church. Ruth also goes to church with her mum. She enjoys going to Sunday school with other kids. Today we have a reason to celebrate because with the help of Pr. Phoebe, Ruth was able to give her life to Christ. We are very excited about this. Please pray that Ruth will continue growing and serving in church just like her mum. Photo of Ruth

It was all smiles today for Ruth because she was in less pain than yesterday. We thank God because even now, He is still working for good for Ruth and all other patients in the ward this week. Please praise God with us! Photo of Ruth

Ruth’s cast had to be split open this morning because her leg had started swelling, creating painful pressure inside the cast. While not fun, this is a rather normal post-op occurence. We are glad that Ruth was able to get some sleep this morning and her mum was there to watch her and take care of her. Please pray that God takes away Ruth’s pain completely and that her healing process will be smooth. Photo of Ruth

Although there isn’t very much that Ruth couldn’t do on her own, her disability had an impact on her self esteem and you can tell by how she shy’s off from walking around or moving from one place to another. We hope that through her surgery, she will be able to regain her confidence and God will light her path so she can pursue all her dreams. John 8:12 - When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” Photo of Ruth

It was a photo like this that made Ruth’s mama laugh when we showed it to her! Ruth herself is a little quiet and shy though she’s game for a smile now and then. We hope that as the week goes on, she’ll feel more comfortable to open up more. Pray for Ruth as she gets ready for surgery! Photo of Ruth
