“Many people said I was at fault for leaving this boy this way.” Hillary’s grandma Sarah told us sadly.

A few years ago, Hillary was in a motorcycle accident along with his mother. He injured his right foot and when he was taken to hospital, the help he got was not sufficient enough to correct his leg completely. A few years later, his leg started bending inwards around his ankle. His grandma was concerned and so she went to another hospital nearby to see the doctor who put Hilary's leg in a cast. Hillary wore the cast for 6 months and when he was done with the process, nothing had changed. Frustrated, Sarah began to look for other options.

Sarah soon learned about one of our CURE Kenya mobile clinics through a teacher at Hillary’s school and decided to try her luck. When she came to our clinic, she saw a familiar face there. A child with a disability she had seen at the previous hospital she had gone to. When Sarah met her at the mobile clinic, her cast was taken off and her legs were straight. Sarah felt very relieved and she knew she was in the right place. “I hope and pray that Hillary’s leg will also be straight and that he will walk normally like other kids. He used to fall a lot while at school and the teachers were concerned, so I hope that this will help stop him from falling,” Hillary’s grandma expressed. Please pray for Hillary as he begins his correction process!

This little guy was very serious when he came to our mobile clinic near his home. He had had a tiny fight with his grandma over his cast being very messed up because he played a lot in it. When we met him, he was walking to the cast application point on mobile clinic and he wasn't very pleased at the thought of wearing such a heavy thing on his leg for another 6 weeks. The cast technician told Hillary to take care of his cast this time to avoid needing another one afterwards. Hilary also had measurements taken for a brace he'll have to wear once his cast comes off for good. We're going to work on making it and hopefully be able to give it to him next time we see him! Hillary and his grandma get to go home! But before going, Hillary had to practice his walking and as much as he loves life, he didn’t seem to enjoy this. Walking on crutches can be a bit awkward and it's not the most comfortable in a cast so we get it. Thankfully though, he did it anyway, and he gave us a smile too! We know that when we see him at our mobile clinic near his home in a few weeks, he’ll most likely walk in with all the confidence and joy that God has given him! Photo of Hillary

"We didn't realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun." (Winnie the Pooh) Elvis and Hillary have become great friends! The memories that Hillary will leave with when he goes home will stick with him for a long while -- both because of his healing and his time spent with Elvis. Hillary went for a cast change in the OR and he’ll be heading home with his fun memories hopefully tomorrow! Photo of Hillary

“They used a power saw,” Hillary told his mom of the cast cutter they used to split his cast yesterday. Him and Elvis were talking about Hillary’s experience of getting his cast split. Hillary was more impressed with the saw than he was scared of it. These two, Hillary and Elvis, are besties so we’re glad they’ll get to see each other again on Monday! Photo of Hillary

Hillary is now a music video star! Storyteller Elvis made a fun video of Hillary dancing with his buddy Mercy before surgery and showed it to him this morning - he thought it was pretty great! If you want to see if for yourself, you can check it out here: https://youtu.be/l4SZ-dcVD6M Hillary is experiencing a bit of swelling in his feet, so the doctors may split open his cast a little bit to help relive the pressure. Meanwhile, his mama and our awesome CURE Kenya nurses are taking great care of him!

Hillary’s face is one that says "I am not very comfortable, but I am a young man and I am going to remain strong till this is over!" We are happy to see Hillary and we thank God for his recovery process even though it's not the most fun at the moment. Photo of Hillary

Hillary had his surgery and it was a success! His correction has already started taking shape and its nice to see the difference now. It might take a while before he is able to walk because he needs to recover, but we can’t wait to see the full transformation in the end. Thank God with us for the completion of the first and the hardest step! Photo of Hillary

Hillary loves the hedge row at CURE Kenya and he asked us to take a photo of him near it. He seemed very fascinated by how well it was shaped. Our new friend is a very jovial kid and we thank God that after his corrective surgery, he’ll be able to play more and have more fun. Please thank God for bringing Hillary to CURE and pray that his procedure is a success. Photo of Hillary
