In the morning, Braison wakes up. Gets ready. And walks to school. But by the afternoon, the day has made him feel tired and his mom, Sarah, has to walk to Braison’s school, put him on her back, and carry him home. So, when she says that she’ll be ‘grateful to God’ once her son is healed, this is just a taste of the ‘why.’ And for Braison, while his friends are out playing football, he sits and plays with his toys since running is difficult. This could be one of his ‘why’s.’
Along with Braison, Sarah has three other kiddos, so one can only imagine what she must have felt when her son started having kidney problems. And after this, his knees started misbehaving, eventually becoming knock knees. Thankfully, a friend of Sarah’s and also the hospital where she sought treatment for Braison recommended they come to CURE Kenya. They visited one of our mobile clinics and now they are here!
Imagine the joy that is coming for Sarah and Braison. “The doctor will cure my child,” Sarah told us. And once Braison is cured, he’ll be able to walk both to and from school -- making life easier for him and his mom. And those toys he plays with? He can save them for rainy days!
Sweet Braison had his cast removed today and another cast put on. But that’s not all he did! He also made friends with another sweet somebody: a visitor from Garden Spot Village in the USA. And this sweet somebody came bearing gifts. She gifted Braison a coloring book which gave him something to do as he waited! Braison is doing well and we’ll catch him in a few weeks for his next cast to be removed!
“He was telling me the size of the car he wanted!” Pastor Emmy said after spending some time in animated conversation with Braison. As we predicted, Braison did indeed get discharged from our neighboring hospital over the weekend and he is back with us just to get some paperwork and logistics taken care of. Thankfully, Braison is heading home now and will be traveling there in a car bigger than the size he wanted to be given to play with! We're just happy Braison is well enough to travel in any car.
Braison has spent over a week in our neighboring hospital, and he’s now getting close to going home -- hopefully tomorrow! We shared your lovely get well messages and his mom had so many words to say filled with gratitude: “Tell them Braison is doing well now… I’m very happy for your prayers, your support. I am very very happy!” Braison is on treatment for his kidney issues/hypertension, and we’ll see him in a few weeks as he starts back up with his treatment at CURE Kenya for his legs! Pray for him!
Braison is still at our neighboring hospital this morning, but one of our nurses checked in with Mama Braison and she assured us this young man is doing well. Please pray for this little guy’s healing and his future -- especially as the doctors at our neighboring hospital decide what’s best for him. We’ll let you know more as we’re able!
Sweet Braison’s swelling and blood testing resulted in not only a change of bed, but change of hospital. The blood work showed he had some acute hypertension and acute kidney failure, both of which are pretty big deals! Since CURE Kenya is a hospital focused on the treatment of bones, we aren't equipped to deal with conditions like this and we transferred Braison to another hospital, literally next door. They'll get him stabilized and on the upswing. Once his kidneys are back at work, then we can go back to focusing on straightening out his legs! We did check up on him after he'd been admitted and found him playing with toys the other hospital gave him to keep his mind occupied. Please be praying for a lot of healing for him -- both for his kidneys and for his legs.
Braison is one amazing kiddo! Julia the lab tech came to draw some blood and although at first Braison may or may not have been sure about it, he was still more than willing to look at us and make faces when we called his name during the blood draw! He’s got some swelling in his face and this necessitated the need for a blood test. But, despite the swelling, silliness was still present in Braison and this makes him amazing. Pray God helps the swelling go away soon!
God worked through Dr. Mang’oli’s hands and the hands of some residents to heal both of Braison’s legs yesterday. We train up residents so that kiddos like Braison will continue to get the help they need well into the future. Thank God with us for His working through Dr. Mang’oli’s hands and also all of the future ‘Dr. Mang’oli’s’ out there!
Prayer is almost as natural is breathing around CURE Kenya. From staff devotions in the morning to praying before surgery anytime of the day to ward chapel in the afternoon, we call on God often. And we wouldn’t have it any other way. God is the author of healing, and we’re happy to call on him in order for healing to take place. Would you also call on him for healing for Braison and all of our kiddos around CURE Kenya?
