When Hillary was one year old he was left at home with his sick dad because his mother had to go find something to eat for her family. Hillary is the 7th and last born in his family. That day, Hillary’s siblings made lunch and after eating they went outside to play. Hillary went back to the house and in a split second, screams were heard in the village. Hillary fell on to the three-stone cooking fire - hands first. His dad heard this but was too weak to move and help.

Hillary’s siblings went into the house and found their little brother on the floor crying. He couldn’t touch anything because his hands were severely burnt. They moved him away from the fire and waited for their mother to come home and decide what to do. The mother came back in the evening and was so shocked to see her little boy. She was stressed because she now had major problems to deal with on her own.

Grace took her son to the hospital in the morning the following day. They stayed at hospital for a very long time and she was starting to give up on trying to treat her boy’s hands. When they were finally discharged from the hospital and were allowed to go home, they found Hillary’s dad in very critical condition, he didn’t live long after that. This meant that Grace now had seven mouths to feed on her own. When the time came for Hillary to go to school he refused because he saw how other kids were looking at him and how others laughed at him and so he told his mum he didn’t want anything to do with school.

Four years later, CURE Kenya had an awareness campaign in Hillary’s village. Grace came and paid attention to what was being said and even accepted Christ as her savior! She also agreed to bring her son to a mobile clinic in a town near their home and later to CURE Kenya for surgery. Hillary saw many kids at the clinic who were like him and some even worse. He knew that he was not alone and agreed to start going to school for this particular reason. He is now at CURE Kenya for surgery and we would like to ask you to kindly pray for a successful procedure. Please also pray for peace of mind for his mum Grace and that God continues to provide her needs in bringing up all her seven kids well.

When we went to the ward this morning, Hillary’s bed was already cleared of bedding and also most definitely cleared of Hillary and his dad because they got to leave today! Please pray for Hillary’s healing to continue at home and pray that he’ll want to continue his hand-play and hand-use so that he’ll just keep getting better and better! We plan to see him in May of next year where hopefully we’ll find out when his next surgery will be. Photo of Hillary

Storyteller Elvis was gone last week, so he sat down and had a little chat with Hillary and his dad to get the lowdown on how things are. Despite physio, every time we see Hillary, his goofy and cute little smile surfaces and today was no exception. The plan for our boy is continued physio and eventually another potential surgery in the future. Please pray for whatever Hillary’s future holds! Photo of Hillary

Play is therapy. Hillary was enjoying driving a little car on his bedside nightstand this morning and you know what? That’s good for him! He was using his hand! He’ll need to stay over the weekend because he needs to continue with therapy next week in order to gain even more movement in his fingers. We also learned about another kind of ‘therapy’ that happened for his dad this week - he became a Christian! God brought Hillary to the hospital to continue his healing journey, and He ended up taking Hillary’s dad on a healing journey of his own! Praise Jesus with us for this! Photo of Hillary

Maybe Hillary will be a doctor someday… he’s definitely gotten himself some exposure to hospitals due to his condition and with the help of Janie, a visitor from Garden Spot Village, he’s now got the tools to practice medicine! Our kiddos have received so much love this week in the form of gifts and greetings and other great things. Hillary is among those who are being loved on and we hope that love will help aid him in the process of his healing. Please pray for this with us! Photo of Hillary

Someone came and brought his dad and his smiles along with him! Hillary is here and will be going through some rehab in the next few days. Please pray his smile persists along with willpower to do what it takes to stay healed and not regress at all! Photo of Hillary

https://youtu.be/4OhmeDvkb1s Here’s our Friday surprise for you! We dare you NOT to giggle right along with our ‘hehe’, toothless grinning boy. Also -- did you notice in the middle of the video that his face changes from happy to serious in just a snap? His face is amazing! Hillary went to theatre for a dressing change today, and the news is good for him - he should go home tomorrow and come back on September 9th for some days of rehab to ensure his fingers stay fixed. Please pray for a bright few weeks for him as he waits to come back!

Oh good morning you toothless grin you! Finally our boy’s smile has returned and with a flourish! We also heard him laughing and he laughs with little ‘hehes.’ He’s super precious. Maybe his mom wouldn’t mind letting us borrow him for a few days so we can listen to his laugh for a little longer. He enjoyed some balloon time with his bed neighbor today as he waits until tomorrow to go to theatre. And speaking of tomorrow -- we’re hoping to have a little surprise for you but you’ll have just have to wait and see, hehehe! Photo of Hillary

Hillary isn’t ready to share his toothless grin with us yet because of the not-so-comfortable things haven’t left him yet. But he was awake enough for us to talk a little bit with him and his mama and we told him, “God will heal you!” We know He can very much heal him, but would you please pray with us that Hillary will believe in his tiny heart that this is so? He should have a dressing change on Friday, so hopefully by that time his pain will have vanished and he’ll be able to go home! Photo of Hillary

Our sweet boy was sleeping some this morning and also experiencing some not-so-comfortable things (pain). But -- this is as a result of yesterday’s transformation! Hillary visited theatre, and, God working through the surgeons, some of Hillary’s fingers were released! The doctors were able to release several fingers on each of Hillary’s hands, and we’re hopeful that his grabbing abilities will have greatly increased once he heals. Thank Jesus with us for this and pray for all of his not-so-comfortable things to go away! Photo of Hillary

His shyness and toothless grin will win you over in an instant. His name is Hillary, and he’s with us at CURE Kenya this week with his mom, Grace. His surgery will hopefully help him use his fingers more, and we’re excited for this! Please pray for Hillary to keep his toothless grin despite the next few days of hospital-ness that he’ll be experiencing! Photo of Hillary
