Everyone who serves with CURE in Ethiopia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Maria. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.
We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Maria. When you give a gift through Maria's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Ethiopia. Have more questions? Ask us.
Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!
When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Maria. We call it being a CURE Hero!
Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

Maria and her mother Kemeriya came to CURE Ethiopia seeking help for Maria’s hip problem. Her condition is called developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) on the right side which means her right hip socket is not in the proper position causing a length discrepancy between her two legs and thus a limp when she walks. Her family noticed her limping a few months back and took her to a clinic and after seeing her x-ray they were told she has a hip problem and to look for help in other hospitals. Thankfully, one of their neighbors was a previous patient of CURE Ethiopia and they told Kemeriya, Maria's mother, to bring Maria to us and they did!
Maria's condition is thankfully still in the early stages so it hasn't affected her life too much just yet. But if it would go untreated, it would make walking increasingly difficult and relegate her to a lifetime of pain and difficulty.
Please join us in welcoming the family while they start their healing journey!
Latest Updates
Maria was doing great, and our doctors decided to send her back home. She will continue her healing from the comfort of her home. Unfortunately we were not able to get a good bye photo of her, but we will see her again in few weeks when she returns for her spica cast change!
Maria is doing great and recovering well from her surgery! Today, we found her outside wheeling around and enjoying her morning with her mother! She is also getting used to the big spica cast she has on. Please keep on praying for her as she continues her healing!
Maria did wonderfully in the operating room! Dr. Laurence put the head of her femur bone back into her hip socket. After placing it in the right position, he applied a spica cast which covers the lower part of her stomach and goes all the way down to her foot. Now, Maria is back in the ward recovering. Please keep on praying for her for a speedy recovery!
