Little Tsion is a joy to have here at CURE Ethiopia. Her laughs and antics entertain all those around her and her attitude lights everyone up! While Tsion is still young, she doesn't realize the magnitude of her physical condition and we pray she never has to. When Tsion was just beginning to walk, her mother tells us, Tsion's left left started to swell up badly. They didn't know what was going on and with no medical care in their community, Tsion was taken to the local tradition healer. He wasn't able to do much, but Tsion's swelling did go down in time. Unfortunately though, Tsion was never able to walk the same. It was only when Tsion and her mother came here to CURE Ethiopia that they were told Tsion's hip is dislocated and possibly infection. They were also told she will need surgery to put the hip back in and keep it from happening again. Tsion's dislocation has forced her entire leg into an externally rotated position which gives her a very pronounced limp which will grow painful and permanent if untreated while she is still small. We are overjoyed Tsion has made it here to CURE Ethiopia and we can't wait to get started!
Tsion is cast-free! The spica cast she had on for the past six weeks was removed today! She will not start her walking practice right away, but when she starts, she will do it gently. We will see her progress after six weeks when she returns for her check-up! Please keep praying for her!
Tsion was not in a good mood today. She didn't want to talk to her nurses or anyone. But the good thing is that she got a smaller cast. The first cast she had covered half of her stomach and this one only covers her legs which allows her to sit up. She will be in this cast for six weeks and continue her healing from home. We will see her again when she returns for her check-up!
Tsion is back at CURE Ethiopia! We found her in bed resting for her turn to go to the operation room. Today, she is having a spica cast change and an examination to see the progress of her healing hip. Please keep her in your prayers as she continues her healing!
As planned, Tsion went back home over the weekend! She will continue her healing from home, and we will see her again in few weeks when she returns for her spica cast change. Please continue praying for her as she heals!
This "tinish anbessa" (little lion) gave us her biggest roar today as we hung out with her a little. We're constantly amazed at her ability to make the best out of every situation. It's not fun being stuck in a restrictive cast, but she's still finding ways to laugh and getting everyone around her to laugh as well! Lord willing, she'll be heading home over the weekend and we'll see her again when she comes back for her check up!
Tsion is recovering well from her surgery! She is getting used to the big spica cast she has on and is enjoying her day with her mother wheeling around the ward! Please keep on praying for her as she continues her healing!
Tsion's surgery’s was a success! The doctors essentially reoriented and reshaped her leg bone where it connects to her hip in order to keep it from popping out of place! It was a big surgery for a little girl, but we've got really good doctors and this little one is a trooper! She's now in what's called a spica cast which covers her all the way from her belly button to her feet. It's not a fun cast to be in as Tsion won't be able to walk with it on and just has to hang out in bed. For such an active little lady, this is going to be the hardest part of the whole ordeal. Please be praying for her!
As usual Tsion is happy and playful, but this time it's because she's been cleared to get her surgery! She was admitted to the ward over the weekend and is waiting her turn in the OR! Please keep this little girl in your prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!
We found little Tsion outside playing! The skin rash she had is gone, and she is scheduled to have her operation at the beginning of next week. Right now, she is doing great and having fun in the ward!
Ethiopian Christmas is celebrated in January instead of December so we had a Christmas celebration with both the CURE Ethiopia staff and the kids - including Tsion! The staff pulled their money to buy each of the kids a little gift. Tsion and the other kids also got to hear about the reason why we celebrate Christmas!
Tsion is doing well! Unfortunately, her surgery was postponed because of a skin rash. She moved back to the long term patient ward until her rashes go away. Please continue praying for this sweet child!
Tsion had her protein levels tested again and they're officially high enough for surgery! She's been moved to the main ward where she's already feeling settled enough to befriend her neighbors and claim their beds as her own playplace!
Tsion has been here for a little bit, staying in our long term patient ward since she lives a long way away. Tsion has also been put on an ultra high protein diet for a bit in order to get her protein levels up high enough where she can safely receive the surgery she needs to sort out her hip. Please join us in praying for her as she works up her strength and gets ready for surgery!
