Dofte came to CURE with his twin brother and father, from a place called Zewaye and it took them 6 hours by bus to get here. This is his first hospital experience for his leg problem. Dofte's parents noticed his problem when he was four years old, and after hearing about us from a previous patient, they brought him to CURE.
After staying in the hospital for three months, Dofte is going back home! He has been practicing his walking with a walker and it is already easier for him. He will continue his walking practice from home, and we will see him again in six weeks when he returns for his check-up!
Dofte has a trip to the clinic today. The long leg cast that covers the whole part of his leg was removed, and his x-ray showed great healing progress on his bone. He received a new walking cast to help him continue his walking practice. We are excited for him to walk and continue to heal!
The days move slow as Dofte continues his healing with us here at CURE Ethiopia. Thankfully we've got some great facilities so Dofte can spend his time between his bed, the playroom, and walking around some of our outdoor areas!
We found Dofte playing a board game with his friends and Temesgen (one of our counselors). Dofte spent most of his time playing and doing a little mathematics! He still has a few weeks before we will review the healing progress of his leg, but in the meantime, he is keeping himself busy and having fun!
Dofte has been resting and recovering from his surgery. Everything is well with him, so he moved back to the long-term patient ward with his brother Challa. He will also start regular walking practice, with the help of a walker, and he is doing a good job!
We found Dofte in bed resting. He is doing great and recovering well from his operation. The long leg cast that covers the whole part of his leg is keeping him in bed for now, but in a few days, he will be able to move around in a wheelchair. Please keep praying for him as he continues his healing journey!
Dofte's operation went very well! Dr. Mesfin straightened out the lower part of his left leg and inserted a pin. Dofte will have a few operations on both legs in the future to completely straighten both legs. Please keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery!
Dofte is doing well, and today, is the day for him to have his operation. He is having surgery on the lower part of his left leg. Please keep him in your prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!
We found Dofte with his brother Chala and one of our counselors Temesgen. He is still waiting for the exact date for his operation, but he is keeping himself busy and having fun in the ward! Continue praying for this young guy!
Good news! Dofte has been cleared for surgery. The nutrition program he was on worked, and he is stronger. The exact date is not decided yet, but we expect that he will have his operation in a few days. Please continue praying for him!
The weight gain game is a long one, but both Dofte and his twin Challa are getting there! While we're working on it, we decided to try and re-create Dofte and Challa's photos from when they were first here at CURE Ethiopia about seven years ago. A lot has changed over the years, but our love and God's love for these two young men is not one of those things!
In Ethiopia, Christmas is celebrated in January instead of December. We were able to put on a celebration for both the kids and our CURE Ethiopia staff where we were reminded of the true meaning of Christmas while also having some fun with Santa glasses and a few small Christmas presents! We also ate well with some cake, biscuits, and traditional Ethiopian bread - all which also work well towards Dofte's weight gain goals!
There are a few great things about being admitted to our long term patient ward. One is the constant and filling meals. The other is, with all their needs taken care of, it gives Dofte (left) and his twin brother Challa (right) time to just be kids and play! They had a good morning of playing, but had to wash their dirty feet before they were allowed back inside!
Good and bad news today. Dofte is back! He's grown up so much we completely didn't recognize him at first. After catching up, we had some fun going through his old photos together and seeing how much he's grown. The bad news is two fold: 1) Dofte needs another surgery to further correct his knock knees and 2) Dofte is pretty underweight. He's been admitted to our long term patient ward where he'll be fed three solid meals a day and, once his weight is where it should be, he'll get his surgery!
Dofte came with his father for his follow-up, he is doing very well and everything looks great! He had a walking cast on and we will see him in four weeks for another follow-up, please keep praying for great progress!
We are so happy Dofte made it back for his second operation! He missed a couple of appointments because of family problems but now he is with us and he is scheduled to have an operation on his right tibia. Please keep this little guy in your prayers!
Dofte and his twin brother came in today for a follow up and they are doing good. After seeing him, the doctors say he still needs another operation on his tibia. He will be back to the hospital on October 14th for an admission. Please keep him in your prayers for a safe return back to us!
Dofte is doing great! he came in today for his follow-up, they saw his x-ray and says his wound is healing well and he will be admitted in the mid June for a pin removal. Keep him in prayers! http://bit.ly/13SBeUe
Dofte has been discharged! His father and he got a ride with one of our CURE vehicles into the center of Addis Ababa, where they will begin the long journey back home. Dofte's brother has been prescribed multi-vitamins for malnutrition and they are taking them back for him. They are very pleased with their time at CURE Ethiopia, and both very happy to be going home! We will see them in 6 weeks for a follow-up... http://bit.ly/YM2hl4
Dofte was very happy when I came to find him in the ward today. Because they were so kind in letting us shoot video with Dofte and take up much of his time, I made a great effort to get his father a photograph of Dofte to take with him. They were both very pleased, and Dofte had a massive grin on his face. They will most likely be discharged by the end of the week! http://bit.ly/14xu8qt
I saw Dofte and his father at 7:30am this morning, while I was photographing the sunrise for a video we are making... He and his dad were enjoying the cool morning, taking a role around the hospital compound with Dofte in a wheelchair, and he gave me a big smile and a half-high-five - half-handshake greeting, which is his signature. His dad says he is feeling good today! Keep him lifted and we will keep you posted..
Dofte's legs look great! They are both casted now, and he is in recovery. He will definitely need time to rest and prayer for healing! See more at http://bit.ly/Zt2SSw

Dofte has unfortunately got a virus that is causing a rash around his eye. The doctors have put him on antibiotics, but had to postpone his surgery from today to an surgery date, dependent on how he responds to the medecine. Keep him lifted in prayer! We will keep you posted...
