“She never walked in her life and I want to see her walk to school just like her siblings” says Shaweko, Dore’s father.

Dore comes from a family of farmers and she has four siblings, two sisters and two brothers. Dore and her father Shaweko have come to CURE Ethiopia seeking help for Dore’s legs which were born with a condition that has left them deformed. After hearing about CURE from people visiting their village, they traveled for days to get to us. That's the power of hope after being hopeless for so long! “I’m so happy to have found a place that will heal my daughter” Shaweko exclaims. Before coming here, all the hospitals they visited could do nothing for them. Because of her leg problems Dore is unable to walk to school, but her wonderfully stubborn family is doing their best to teach her the alphabet and how to read the Bible at home! Join us welcoming the family while they start their healing journey!

Dore is doing great! She has been resting and it is time for her to head back to the Alemachin house where she has been staying. The Alemachin house is a partner organization where patients who live a long way away can stay as they go through their healing process with us. She will continue her recovery from there and we will see her again in a few weeks when she returns for her check-up! Please continue praying for her. Photo of Dore

All the operation room staff joined in on the prayer to start Dore's operation! Due to the nature of Dore's brittle bone disease, she has come back to CURE Children's Hospital of Ethiopia with another broken bone. The doctors sent her straight to the OR where they set her bone and inserted a metal rod which will strengthen her bone, hopefully helping prevent future breaks. Dore is now back in the ward resting and continuing her recovery. Please keep on praying for her! Photo of Dore

Dore is back! She's here to pick up a new medication which will continue to help strengthen her bones. The thing with this new medicine is she has to be admitted to the ward overnight so our nurses can keep an eye on her just to make sure she doesn't have a bad reaction to the meds. And in order to be admitted to the ward, she had to get tested for COVID-19 first which she just had done here in this photo. Please be praying there are no issues! Photo of Dore

Dore came back to CURE Ethiopia, but not for a good reason unfortunately. She fell out of a wheelchair a few days ago and hurt her arm. We checked her out and were able to confirm nothing was broken, but since she was still complaining of pain, we hooked her up with a splint to keep everything still and in place. She'll come back to check in with us in three weeks time. Other than that, Dore is doing well. She's still taking her meds to keep her bones strong and everything is going as planned! Photo of Dore
