CURE in Ethiopia

The picture above is of CURE in Ethiopia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Ethiopia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Mekiya. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Mekiya. When you give a gift through Mekiya's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Ethiopia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Mekiya. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Mekiya's Story

"She used to be in school but after going there for some time, she told me that children in her school were making fun of her hand problem, and she doesn’t want to continue like that," Fentaw, Mekiya’s father shared with us. “I tried talking to the teachers but that didn’t help, so she quit her school a year ago."

Mekiya is a friendly girl. She comes to CURE Ethiopia seeking help for her hand problem. Four years ago, she was in the house playing with her siblings. While playing, she accidentally fell on hot coals and hurt her hand. At the time, the family took her to a traditional healer, but her hand did not heal properly, and she still needed treatment for her right wrist and fingers. “I did not stop. I have been asking around but could (not) find a place that would help me heal my daughter,” Fentaw told us. “But recently, I met a woman in our village who has a child with a similar problem as mine, and she is the one who told me about the CURE hospital." Mekiya was in the second grade but isn't currently going to school due to her circumstances. She told us she is looking forward to being healed and going back to school! Her parents are farmers and she has two sisters and two brothers. Join us in welcoming Mekiya as she starts her healing journey!

Mekiya is doing great! Her wrist is showing good progress and our physical therapist showed her several different exercises she can do at home to get it up to speed. She also got a splint to wear at night time in order to keep everything straight. We will see her again in a couple of months when she returns for another check-up! Please keep her in your prayers!
