“All of her siblings are in school and other children the same age as her has started school this year but because of her leg problems she could not” says Amina, Rahmets mother. She continues, “I want her to be healed and to go to school like the other children.”
Rahmet is a sweet little girl! She came to CURE Ethiopia with her mother seeking help for her knock knees. This isn't the first hospital Rahmet and Amina have sought help at. The hospital before us tried their best but ultimately didn't have the doctors and resources to deal with knock knees like Rahmet's. Thankfully, this hospital did know about us here at CURE Ethiopia and referred Rahmet to us! Rahmet comes from a rural area where there are mixed opinions on seeking medical care. Many believe hospitals are just a place where people go to die and criticized Amina for seeking help. Ultimately Amina was vindicated, “I'm so glad I brought her to a hospital because, now she is getting the help she needs”. Join us welcoming this sweet child as she starts her healing journey here with us at CURE Ethiopia!
Little Rahmet's surgery went great! Take a little look into her operation as Dr. Tim did a wonderful job straightening both of her legs. She is doing fantastic and will be heading back home to heal up! We will see her again in a couple of months when she returns for her check-up. Keep this sweet one in your prayers!
We found little Rahmet in bed waiting for her turn to be called to the operation room this morning. Today she is having plates inserted in both her legs which will help control the growth of her various leg bones in order to help them straighten themselves out. Please keep this sweet one in your prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery!
Rahmet was wheeling around and joining in some "sit down volleyball" where no one is allowed to stand as they play. When she saw us with the camera, she stopped the game and made us take this photo! She is having fun and enjoying her say in the ward while continuing her healing!
Rahmet loves singing so much! Today she had a lot of fun with all of her friends singing and learning all the hand motions that go along with the songs! Being in the ward as long as Rahmet has been can get a bit boring, but she's doing great and spreads joy to everyone that interacts with her!
While some of the kids were watching a movie, Rahmet and her friend Sudesi took the opportunity to steal some of the other kid's walking frames and have a race. It didn't work out quite as they imagined, because the frames were too big and too heavy for these two little ones! Rahmet wasn't too pleased about this, but it's the way things go sometimes!
Craft time! Rahmet was among friends, siting in between Rufo and Aberash doing different crafts to decorate their part of the ward. Rahmet was so focused on her work, this is one of the few times we've seen her without a giant smile on her little face! They ended up painting different papers to make flowers and trees. Just a little reminder of the world outside the hospital that they'll soon be running through, completely healed!
Since she received her surgery, Rahmet has always had a cast on and has never actually seen her leg. Well today that changed and when she saw it she got so excited and started clapping! "Look at my leg it is so straight now" was her greeting today, to everyone that says hi to her. Her x-ray shows her bone is healing well and everything looks good. Her free leg didn't last long though as she had another cast put on which she'll need to have for the next month.
Look at these two! We found Rahmet with her friend and neighbor Birtukan just giggling up a storm! They are always goofing around and playing together. Rahmet is doing well and enjoying her time in the ward while continuing her healing!
Movie time! We found little Rahmet on her wheelchair watching a movie! She told us, she spent her weekend playing and rolling around the ward with the other children! She is doing great and enjoying her time in the ward!
Everyone was giving their attention to our counselor Kebede, listening to a story. Meanwhile, little Rahmet was waving for the camera! She is always busy doing her own thing and enjoying herself in the ward!
"Take a photo! I want to see what my cast looks like in a picture!" This was Rahmet's request for today. She wanted her cast to be close to her face in the photo. She is doing well and enjoying her time in the ward!
The fun continues! Rahmet was outside laughing so hard, enjoying her day and playing with her friend Sudesis! The joy this one has never ends and we love having her here as she works hard to continue her healing!
Rahmet was trying to show us her newly braided hair, but couldn't stop laughing long enough! She is doing well and continuing her healing in the ward! Keep this sweet one in your prayers for a speedy recovery!
Earlier this morning, Rahmet was out of bed and in her wheelchair going around saying hi to everyone. Her first stop was her neighbor Birtukan! She asked us to go around with her and told us the name of all the other children while saying hello to them! She is doing wonderful and becoming the little community organizer in the ward!
We found little Rahmet on her wheelchair wheeling around the ward and enjoying her morning. While continuing her healing, she is slowly getting used to everyone in the ward and doing her best to make friends here!
Little Rahmet was a bit shy today. When we said hi, she was giggling and trying to hide her face from us. Her mom Amina was wheeling her around and playing with her. It's hard work keeping this young one entertained as she focused on her healing!
Rahmet has had her surgery! It was a pretty straight forward, but intense surgery. The doctors essentially removed a wedge of her bone which gave them the space they needed to then "break" her leg straight. She was asleep and didn't feel a thing, but we can imagine, when she wakes up, she won't be a big fan of the bulky cast she now has on her left leg!
Rahmet is an active girl! She was running around and playing in the ward before heading to the operation room. Today she is having a surgery on her left leg. Please keep her in your prayers, for a successful operation and for a speedy recovery!
