“I was so sad and sick from the shock of his accident. I have been in a hospital before, but they never took away this feeling. Once I heard about CURE Ethiopia and that they could help me heal my son, I really felt better.” says Asebech, Israel’s mother.
Israel came to the CURE Ethiopia with his mother Asebech seeking help for severe burn contractures on his neck and arm. Two and half years ago, Asebech had just made a pot of coffee and while the pot was still in her hand, Israel came running and hit the pot with his head. The coffee pot broke and boiling hot coffee spilled all over his body, badly burning his whole torso. Israel's family rushed him to the hospital where he was treated, but he still healing up with disabling contractures connecting his face and arm to his chest. Soon after, Israel’s father, Desalegn, had to move to the capital of Ethiopia looking for work. He eventually found work as a butcher's assistant and, in the process, learned about us here at CURE Ethiopia from a previous patient of ours. Once they knew healing was possible for Israel, Desalegn and Asebech wasted no time in making arrangements for Israel to come to CURE Ethiopia. “I’m so happy to have found a place that would help heal my son!" Asebech tells us joyously and we are so happy to have Israel here with us. Join us welcoming Israel while he starts his healing journey!
