CURE in Ethiopia

The picture above is of CURE in Ethiopia. Everyone who serves with CURE in Ethiopia, from medical professionals to office staff, are dedicated to providing the highest quality medical and spiritual care to people who, without CURE, couldn't find it and couldn't afford it, just like Befkade. To do that, we're inviting you to partner with us.

We need to raise approximately $1000 to treat children like Befkade. When you give a gift through Befkade's CUREkids profile, your contribution will help us continue our work in countries like Ethiopia. Have more questions? Ask us.

Monthly Giving: Be a Hero!

When you partner with us monthly, we'll send you an email each month to introduce you to a different child who was helped because of your generosity. You can choose to follow their updates and send them get well messages. That means that each year, you're a part of helping 12 different children, beginning with Befkade. We call it being a CURE Hero!

Got it. Thanks for the explanation.

“He doesn’t have any pain, he walks, runs well and enjoys it!” proclaims Getaye, Befkade’s father, as he smiles!

Befkade comes from north of the capital. He is the first born of three for Getaye, who is a farmer. Getaye's other two children are girls. Befkade was born with his clubfoot. He is in the sixth grade and is initially quiet when you first meet him, but we’re sure he’ll warm up to us over time! A local physician in their town referred Befkade’s family to CURE a couple of months ago. We're so thankful that they've made their way here and we're excited to start his treatment and get him off to a new start with a straightened foot! Join us in praying him through the process!

“When he was two years old we took him to a clinic in our village and they told us there is no healing for him,” recounted Getaye, Befekade’s father and he continued, ”so we gave up hope and accepted his condition as a gift from God and stopped looking for help. Recently, I heard about CURE from a physician and came here. I am so happy we have found a place that shows us hope and that there is healing for my son.” Befekade spent most of his time in bed and the rest wheeling around in a wheelchair! Photo of Befkade

Befkade and one of our counselor Tewodros were talking and Befkade was telling him how life was before coming to the CURE Ethiopia hospital. "A lot of kids make fun of my foot, it always made me mad and if they are younger than me I tried to hit them," says Befekade and he continues, "when I play soccer I never get picked to be a player, I'm always a goal keeper because I don't play like the rest of them." Once he is done with his treatment we are confident that he will be able to play soccer like the other children in his village! Photo of Befkade
