Emebet is a 5th grader who dreams of becoming a doctor someday. Unfortunately, she had to stop school temporarily because walking to school become very difficult for her. CURE is not her first hospital that she has visited and she’s even had an operation on her left leg, but she still needs a couple of more operations on both legs so that they will be straight. Kids at her school bully her because of her condition, so she is really looking forward to being healed and walking to school and playing with her friends as normal kids do. Emebet lives with both of her parents and her three brothers. Her parents are farmers and they are thankful to have found a place that could help get Emebet started on her journey to healing. Please join us in praying for that!
With her frame off and cast on, Emebet got discharged over the weekend! She's going to continue working hard on her healing from the comfort of her own home. We'll check up with her again in a couple of weeks when she swings back by for her follow up appointment!
The frame Emebet had on did a wonderful job straightening her leg! Since it did such a great job, it's now time to take it off! Today she is having her frame removed and will get a long leg cast that she'll have to wear for the net six weeks. Please keep her in your prayers and thank God with us for this big step forward!
We found Emebet outside, resting after her walking practice. She has been doing a great job with that even though it can be pretty tiring. It's not common sense, but for the patients, the surgery is the easiest part of this whole correction process. The real work comes during the healing and physical therapy stages!
Singing time! Emebet was next to her friend Rufo singing a song and having fun. "All the games we play here and the stories I hear helps me to take my minds off of my leg and everything. It all makes me very happy". Emebet told us
Emebet started her walking practice today! The doctors have told her she needs to begin putting a little weight on her left leg. This will help the bones heal as well as help preserve some muscle so there's less catching up to do once it's time for the frame to come off! Overall, she is doing well and enjoying her time in the ward. Keep on praying for her!
“All the get-well messages I get make me very happy! They are very supportive and refreshing. It helps me realize that I can do anything in the future." Emebet told us after hearing all the messages from you all! She continued, "It really is a great support, the fact that everyone is thinking of me and praying for me." Thank you all for your support, encouragement, and helping keep a smile on this young woman's face!
We found Emebet in the playroom area with all her friends, chatting and having fun. Little Hornenueis was in the front trying to showoff her glass to the camera. Emebet is enjoying her time getting to meet all these new people and she is continuing on her healing track! Keep on praying for a speedy recovery!
We have story time in the ward where kids listen to a story and afterwards they color pictures from the story. Emebet was with all her friends and enjoying the activity! She is a joy to be around and her healing is progressing! Thank you for your prayers and encouragement to her!
Most of the children and their parents gathered around in the playroom area, while some of them were getting a hair cut from our counselor Kebede, and some were watching a movie. Embet was there in the middle enjoying her time with her friends and neighbors!
There is a game with a parachute and a ball that our kids love to play in the ward! The fun is had by moving the parachute but not letting the ball fall. If it falls, the person that let it fall will have to introduce themself and tell everyone what they want to do when they grow-up. Meseret, who is in the middle and her friends, Medenekiya and Kalid next to her loved playing the game!
CURE Ethiopia counselor Nahom read all your get-well messages to Emebet and she was so encouraged to hear from all of you! "Thank you so much!" Emebet exclaimed after listening to them. She is doing well and continuing her healing in the ward!
We found Emebet wheeling around the ward, she has not started walking with her crutches yet and so she spends most of her day in bed resting and the rest the day in her wheelchair. Keep on praying for strength in her recovery!
We found Emebet in the playroom today and she told us, "I hated going to school because of the bullying, but now I'm very hopeful and looking forward to going back to school once I'm done with my treatments!" She also told us that she is looking forward to wearing all the types of shoes she wants and hopes to become a doctor in the future. Thank you for your support in Emebet's healing which will in turn open up doors of opportunity for her!
Take a little look into Emebet's operation! Dr. Tewodros did a wonderful job fixing her leg last week. Emebet told us that she had a restful weekend and that she is doing good. She has been spending most of her time in bed resting and recovering. Keep on praying for her!
Emebet came back for a checkup, she is doing well and walking well. She still needs another surgery on her left leg and a plate removal on the right one. We will see her after six months to decide the date for her operation. Please keep her in your prayers!
Emebet came in for her checkup and she is doing well. She still couldn't walk without her crutches and there is a stiffness in the left knee. She needs a revision surgery on the left femur and we will see her mid November when she returns for her admission.
Emebet is doing well! Her cast is off and she will continue ambulating without it! She is almost done with her treatment, she is just left with one more surgery on her left tibia and the she can plan on starting school afterwards. We will see her progress when she returns in six weeks!
Emebet's leg looks so good! The wound is healing very well according to our doctors and she was fitted with another cast for the coming six weeks to help her with the healing. We will see her back at her next checkup!

Emebet came to her follow up with her dad and she is doing very well! Emebet and her family are so happy with the correction on her right leg and she is ready to start her treatment on the left one soon! We will see her on February 27th for an admission!
Emebet's right leg is all healed and it looks perfect! Now she has to practice walking with it and start physical therapy exercises for her knee. She will return in a month to see a doctor and at that time she will start her treatment on her left leg!
Emebet came for her follow-up and she is doing good! Our doctors said her surgery wound healed very well. She needs another cast for six weeks, and then we'll see her at the end of that time for her checkup. Please keep her in your prayers!
Emebet was doing so great that she got to go back home over the weekend! We will see her in a couple of weeks for her follow-up, please keep praying for her!
Emebet came in for her follow-up and she is doing good. The doctors say her x-ray shows good alignment and now she is ready to have her second operation. We will see her in a month when she returns for an admission. Please keep her in your prayers!
Emebet's surgery went well! She had a rod placed inside her leg to help the bone straighten out as it grows. Next time it will be the same right leg but below the knee. We immediately saw a change when Dr. Tim straightened out the top part of her leg! We're excited to see more healing! Please pray with us for that!
Emebet is antsy to have her procedure so she's been pacing the ward until it's time! This morning's brisk weather was peaceful for her though. She is having her right leg worked on today, but only the bones above her knee because operating on the whole leg would be too much to endure at once. Join us in praying for her to recovery quickly!
