It’s been quite a year! 2020 has definitely had its challenges and triumphs. With the introduction of COVID-19, the world has been waiting – waiting for good news and change. Well, since we are all tired of waiting, let’s just start out with the #1 story from 2020. We won’t make you wait!

#1 Trusting God Amidst Lockdown: CURE Philippines

Hope Kim Pranza shares her motto “healing changes everything,” and it is a welcome statement for the world to hear. She shares how COVID-19 changed the country, its citizens, and the hospital. She also shares hope. “There may be panic ensuing from rumors of the shortage of food and resources, but what we will never have a shortage of is time to pray…Could it be that while physical healing within our facility may be less visible during this season, God is moving as a spiritual healer in our lives?”

#2 A Family Transformation: Zara, Maria, Walida

Anna Psiaki shares a story of the importance of family and faith from Niger. Zara gave birth to a baby, Maria, that could not move like other babies. Her husband thought she and the baby were cursed and told them to leave. Zara sought shelter with her older sister Walida. Despite other’s protests that nothing could be done, Walida did not give up hope that Maria could be cured. Not only did Walida find treatment for Maria at CURE Niger, but the sisters also found hope and faith in a Savior that loves them unconditionally.

#3 A Character Brought to Life: Pemphero’s Story

Alexis Gilmore shares the transformative story of Pemphero – a young, shy boy with a bowed leg in Malawi. Due to his leg, he became an outcast and suffered from loneliness. When his brother in law heard about CURE Malawi, everything changed! During treatment, Pemphero’s personality began to shine! He kept the mood light through treatment by pretending to be a superhero during frame turns and check-ups. His favorite time in the hospital was praising God, and one of his favorite stories is of John the Baptist.

#4 CURE Awarded $2.79 million from USAID’s ASHA program for expansion and sustainability projects

CURE International hospitals were awarded $2.79 million by USAID/ASHA to complete solar energy and sustainability projects at CURE Kenya and CURE Zambia, and to provide capacity expansion and infrastructure enhancements at CURE Niger.

#5 Nurse Delia: Following God’s Leading

We have wonderful, caring people working at CURE International hospitals. Hope Kim Pranza shares the story of a nurse born in the Philippines that studied abroad in order to come back and share her talents with her home country. Nurse Delia is Tebow CURE’s Head Nurse and has a passion for serving children in need. “I work at Tebow CURE because we take part in restoring the broken as we serve the poorest of the poor.” – Nurse Delia

#6 Hospitals helping each other during COVID virus outbreak

Michael Hulland, Executive Director of the Tebow CURE Children’s Hospital, shares that healthcare workers have a duty to help in times of physical suffering. This belief led Tebow CURE to temporarily house government medical workers in empty rooms and beds when elective procedures were canceled due to COVID.

#7 Brant Hansen’s interview with CURE’s CEO Justin Narducci

Justin previously led the Lifewater organization in California and had visited a CURE hospital during his travels. Brant Hansen, radio host and speaker for CURE, interviewed Justin to let CURE supporters know a little more about the new leader of CURE International.

#8 “No More Crawling!” Wheelchairs for Africa

Stacey Korecki shares some of Michael Panther’s story, founder of Living with Hope, and his work with CURE International to ship out wheelchairs and mobility assisting devices to Africa. Michael was born in Africa and suffered from a condition that took away his ability to walk. He knows first hand how difficult it is for a person without mobility to survive in underserved areas of Africa, and he has dedicated his life to changing that.

#9 Ethiopia’s First Full Femur Replacement

Joel Witwer shares how the medical team at CURE Ethiopia went above and beyond to help a young boy with a cancerous femur bone. When he came to CURE, the only way to stop cancer from spreading was to remove the bone or amputate the leg. To avoid amputation, Dr. Whitwell and Dr. Nunn performed the first full femur replacement in Ethiopia.

#10 He waited six years for healing

Stacey Korecki shares the story of Yetbarket from Ethiopia. While playing soccer with his friends he broke his leg. Unfortunately, he did not receive sufficient treatment and his leg healed with a severe bend pointing his tibia bone out past his knee. He suffered from this treatable condition for 6 years until he found healing at CURE Ethiopia.
