CURE International Transfers Kanad Hospital in Al Ain, UAE to True Sojourners

CURE International and True Sojourners have entered into an agreement that will transition the Kanad Hospital in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates between the parties, effective October 1st, 2020.

At the invitation of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brother, Sheikh Shakhbut, Christian physicians Drs. Pat and Marian Kennedy opened the original Oasis Hospital in November 1960 to address unusually high infant and maternal mortality rates in Al Ain. Due to the mortality rates and other endemic diseases like tuberculosis and malaria, the population of Al Ain was declining and in desperate need of quality healthcare.

By the grace of God, the Kennedys and their small team were able to provide the first modern healthcare in the region. CURE International acquired the then named Oasis Hospital in 2006, and in 2015, was moved into a new building thanks to a generous gift from the Al Nahyan family. In December of 2019, the hospital was renamed from Oasis Hospital to Kanad Hospital under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. The Kanad Hospital now specializes in maternal health – providing over 200,000 patient visits and completing more than 2,500 procedures in FY2020.

“We have loved having the Kanad hospital as part of the CURE network for the last 14 years. The hospital leadership team is to be commended for growing the hospital into a premier center of infant and maternal care in the region. As CURE International looks to the future, our focus will remain on reaching children living with disabilities and providing hope and healing as the leading provider of pediatric orthopedic healthcare in Africa and Southeast Asia. We are confident in the similarly focused mission and capable leadership of True Sojourners to continue the excellent work of Kanad Hospital and in their desire to see it thrive for years to come.” Justin Narducci, President, and CEO of CURE International.

True Sojourners is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to blessing and empowering the people of all corners of the world with tangible demonstrations of love. The organization accomplishes this through a series of unique development projects that are all done in partnership with local leaders who direct each initiative. Healthcare is one of its primary areas of focus.

“We feel truly privileged to partner with some of the brightest and most capable medical professionals in providing high-quality healthcare for women and children in the UAE. The opportunity to honor God and bless families by caring for the health needs of the UAE community with the compassion and love of Jesus Christ is an important focus for True Sojourners and one that we are committed to investing in strategically.” Mark Kraines, Board President of True Sojourners.

“It’s an honor to serve on the leadership team at Kanad hospital, and I look forward to our partnership with True Sojourners. We are confident that this partnership will continue to develop people who are passionate about providing excellent health care to mothers and children and contribute to the legacy of medical advancement while bringing life-changing hope through daily, Christ-centered compassion.” Tim Fincher, CEO of Kanad Hospital.
