February 2019 Prayer Guide
“Blessed is the one … whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.” (from Psalm 1:1-2)
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
CURE’s spiritual ministry directors have chosen “Pressing On to Bear Fruit” as this year’s theme for devotions and Bible study. All hospitals will be involved in exploring what it means to delight in God’s word (Psalm 1) and to abide in Christ (John 15:1-8).
Trees often appear in scripture, imaging both healthy and unhealthy people and communities. The Book of Psalms begins with a description of happy or blessed people who resist walking, standing, or sitting with people bent on evil but who, instead, delight in God’s law or teaching. These people are like trees, says the psalmist, planted on purpose by a river, faithfully bearing good fruit and green leaves. Trees line a river flowing from the temple in Ezekiel’s vision, bearing fruit for food and leaves for healing because the water from the sanctuary flows to them (47:12). Remain in me, says Jesus, and you will bring glory to God by bearing much fruit.
We’re grateful for your prayers as we give ourselves to this lovely emphasis, hoping that our whole network will bear fruit that attracts and nourishes children and families as the life of God flows through us to heal the sick and proclaim the kingdom. May this be so for us all, wherever we find ourselves “planted.”

Please pray for peace in Haiti. The unrest has essentially shut everything down, and the Hope Walks clubfoot clinics have not been working this past week. It’s not safe for anyone to be out on the streets and the general consensus is that everyone should stay inside. While the facilities where they hold clinics do not appear to be in danger, the families they work with are surely facing troubling times as the protests make it difficult to move about and get essential items when needed.
