November 2018 Prayer Guide
Give thanks to him; bless his name. Psalm 100:4 (ESV)
Over and over the scriptures call us to give thanks to the LORD. Why? The most often repeated reason is that God is good and His love endures forever (1).
Sociologist Brené Brown has from her research concluded that the more grateful the person, the more joyful and wholehearted they are, even—and maybe especially—when facing or experiencing devastating loss. The experience of joy is supported by gratitude, she says—and not just the attitude of gratitude but the practice. Of course practicing gratitude sometimes is just plain hard, especially in difficult seasons such as some of our CURE family members are experiencing today. And for many of our coworkers who live in host countries and away from home and family in this holiday season, thanksgiving may not feel germane.
Mary Diane Deysher, serving with her husband Mark at the CURE hospital in Malawi, has written about the loneliness of living, working and relating in new territory: “Alone, yet Jesus promises, ‘I am with you always.’ So, in the lonely place is a sacred opportunity to be with Him alone (2).” Maybe we can apply the promise “I am with you always” to all of our experiences, whether or not they seem to fall into the “grateful” category.
The CURE community is grateful to welcome children with correctable disabilities for the mission we’ve been given in proclaiming the kingdom and healing the sick. Today we’re especially grateful for your prayers that we reflect God’s goodness and lovingkindness throughout the network—that our gratitude is expressed in joyful service.
Praying with you,
Prayer and Member Care Coordinator
