October 2018 Prayer Guide

I pray that you may be strengthened with power through his Spirit, indwelled by Christ through faith, rooted in love, grasping and knowing the measure of the deep love of Christ; filled, along with God’s people, to the measure of God’s fullness. Ephesians 3:17-19

Dear Friends,

Prayer for me is best imaged in an invitation Jesus extends: “I stand at the door and knock; if any hear my voice and open the door, I will come into their house and eat with them, and they will eat with me.”1 As a person whose job it is to pray and help nurture a culture of prayer at CURE, I sometimes must encourage myself by remembering that, even when I feel most alone and my words ineffective, I am not the sole pray-er. When I open the door to Jesus, He promises to join and pray along.

The door and the table are good images for a prayer gathering—the door, when opened, extending welcome to Jesus’ presence and the table picturing the family’s gathering place where we share our experiences, concerns, and hopes. We soon discover that our honored guest has seated Himself at the head, welcoming us as Host, offering correction,2 encouragement,3 and instruction.4 He is the reason to hope as we pray—can we imagine even one of Jesus’ prayers not being answered?

We welcome you to take a place the table today where many in the CURE community are gathered to consider the concerns shared below. May we all hear the voice of Jesus and open the door to experience communion—like the goodness of a shared meal.

Praying with you,

Cathy Morgan
Prayer and Member Care Coordinator

Hospitals

Philippines
As other hospitals throughout the network have, CURE Philippines coworkers recently completed a trauma training seminar. We pray that the wisdom of this training will work not only to the benefit of patients but will also do it’s work in each member of the community as we give ourselves to healing of past wounds; that all our experiences will find redemption and help us know how to comfort others.
