August 2017 Prayer Guide
As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.
Here I am. Send me.
So often my prayers are focused on asking God to do things for me or for those I love. Of course we’re invited—even urged. Multiple biblical passages show Jesus telling His followers to ask to receive (1); that if they ask anything in His name He will do it (2). Jesus’ brother James tells us if we don’t have, it’s because we haven’t asked! (3)
Sometimes, however, our prayers reveal that God is also asking. “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?” Isaiah hears in his vision of God. Isaiah’s response is famous: “Here I am. Send me!” (4) We can imagine the same question and response between Father and Son when the time came for God to demonstrate His love for the world.
Some 2,000 men and women who today serve children with correctable disabilities at some point answered that question by making themselves available to join the work of CURE International in healing the sick and proclaiming the kingdom. We are so grateful for doctors, nurses, engineers, administrators, pastors, teachers, therapists, counselors, and prosthetists who heard God’s voice and responded “Here I am! Send me!” Their willingness to be sent is transforming families and communities.
This month the prayer guide represents many needs both in the field and stateside. Co-workers have family members with severe and chronic illnesses; the children and families in the various countries served by CURE face daily realities hard for us in the US to imagine. We must ask God to help. But perhaps this month as we witness and grapple with the variety of illnesses and evil plaguing the world, some of us may also hear God asking, “Who shall I send?”
Praying—and listening—with you,
New prayer requests can be shared at cure.org/prayer-request.

Following the Kenya elections last week, the outcome was disputed by the opposition leader which triggered some violence in Nairobi and Kisumu. As a result there have been some injuries and fatalities. While things are slowly returning to normalcy, tomorrow the opposition leader is planning to announce plans for moving forward. Neither CURE coworkers, patients, nor families have been affected as far as we know. Please pray for peace in Kenya.

From Scott Reichenbach, CURE Clubfoot Operation’s Director:
“Today we received wonderful news from CURE India that our FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulations Act) registration has been renewed. This is our permission to receive foreign funds into India and thus allowing us to continue to support CURE International India and our clubfoot program. This is what Compassion has denied earlier this year. This is good for five years. Praise be to God!
To put icing on the cake today, one of our donors to our program in India, On His Path, significantly increased their funding for FY18 from ~$40,000 to more than $160,000. Praise be to God for his generosity.”

From a friend in Kenya: “I’m really touched by what this ministry is doing. When I was planting a church I happened to lead one woman to Christ and this woman had a sick child around the age of two years. Later on she was informed of this ministry at kijabe; by the grace of God this boy underwent treatment and now I’m happy he is an adult now in college and a strong believer in our congregation. May the Lord continue using this ministry to bring hope.
