August 2016 Prayer Guide

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7

Dear Friends,

This month, CURE Headquarters will move to 774 Limekiln Road, our new site in New Cumberland, PA. Though there are moments when we may feel a little apprehensive to leave the familiar space in Lemoyne, we are experiencing joy as we move forward.

At the same time, our headquarters team has been hit by a wave of unexpected illnesses impacting beloved sisters, mothers, wives, fathers and daughters. Like the many families whose prayers for sick and disabled children have resulted in finding healing at a CURE hospital, we too pray that God will restore our loved ones.

The instruction to rejoice in the Lord always and to pray with thanksgiving may at times seem an odd and unintuitive response, especially when experiencing deep concern for the well-being of a loved one. Dr. Brene Brown, author of The Power of Vulnerability and Daring Greatly, believes strongly, however, that to live fully means to live joyfully, but joy, she says, is fragile and susceptible to fear. To sustain our joy and disallow fear that will rob our full experience of joy, she insists that we must practice gratitude by actively and faithfully remembering the blessings of our lives and giving thanks for them.

From the context of prison walls, Paul inspires us to add thanksgiving to our prayer requests. The Lord, he says, is near to help. What follows the practice is peace that can outstrip anxiety.

May peace and joy be yours today, friends, whatever your circumstance. Please know that we thank God for you.

Blessings,

Cathy Morgan

Prayer Requests

Hospitals

After a very busy season, the staff at the Tebow CURE Hospital welcomes a quieter season and some rest. Please pray for the refreshment of each member.

We are thankful for Victor Nakah’s productive visit to the Philippines and for his inspiring message on intentional Christian service that reflects a genuine relationship with God.

We thank God for how He answered our prayers for the outreach to one of the poor areas in the city, where CURE staff and volunteers supported our partner’s free clinic as we ministered to children and adults.

We’re grateful for the answer to prayer for some of our needs for medicines and other expenses.

Thank God for the recent higher number of admissions at CURE Philippines.

Pray for us as we maintain equipment. When things break down, scheduled surgeries have to be postponed.

Pray for our nursing department. One of the ward nurses recently lost her father to cardiac arrest; she and her family need God’s comfort and peace. Another ward nurse has begun a discipleship program with her colleagues. We are hoping that God will bless her desires to be an instrument of God’s peace.

From our spiritual director in Malawi: “In the past weeks we lost a patient of 11 yrs and another who was previously certified healed by doctors but passed on suddenly in Zimbabwe, where she came from. They were both laid to rest on Thursday. Today we have lost another friend, a counselor who has worked with us on our clubfoot program since its inception Malawi. Pray for these three families for God’s comfort and also for our medical team to be comforted by God.”

In addition to the father of a staff member, we buried two people last week and a man from the local church community this week. One of our staff members lost his father-in-law.
