July 2016 Prayer Guide

…we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul… Hebrews 6:18, 19

My nine-year-old granddaughter recently asked me what the word anchoress means. When I asked her if the term reminded her of anything she responded that it made her think of an anchor. “Do you know the purpose of an anchor?” I asked. She answered well: “It’s the thing that holds a ship steady in the moving currents of water,” then inquired, “What does that have to do with your job?”

The conversation reminds me of Hebrews 6 and the words, “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul.” What is “this?” The reference is to God’s promise to bless and multiply Abraham and his family, a strong promise that will hold God’s people steady in the currents of change.

While change happens every day in every place, the CURE family is currently experiencing a significant season of transition. Even in this kind of change, we feel ourselves invited to remember God’s faithfulness to bless and multiply the work of CURE International over these 20 years of healing the sick and proclaiming the kingdom of God. God’s promise, sure and steadfast, will continue to hold us steady. As one of CURE’s spiritual directors recently reminded us, God has taken us through many times of change and will continue to guide us.

The work of prayer is our connection to the hope Hebrews 6 represents. We’re very grateful for your prayers at all times, but especially in these critical days.

Thank you for praying with us.

Cathy Morgan
Anchoress

Praise God for the ENT team arriving safely.

The Spiritual Emphasis week was wonderful. I (Christine Kithome) was invited to talk to the single ladies and I would request that we continue to pray for their children and other special needs.

With her family and community, Christine Kithome, CURE Anchoress in Africa, celebrated the life of Jeremiah, Christine’s husband and CURE Kenya’s first spiritual director, who unexpectedly passed away 14 years ago. The same day they remembered the gift of Jeremiah’s life, Christine’s daughters also surprised her with a birthday celebration. Praise the Lord for the Kithome family and their lives of love and service on behalf of CURE over these 20 years. Praise the Lord for Christine’s courage and faithfulness in these years since Jeremiah’s departure. Praise the Lord for the depths and heights of life’s events, all of which we experience in God’s presence – God with us!

Please pray for one of our caretakers who accepted Christ and began coming to devotions and participating in all activities about Jesus. There is no church in her village so she goes to a church in another village. She said that she believes in Christ and nothing can stop her. As a result, other women feel encouragement to come and hear the gospel. God is faithful and we believe that he will do great things in Niger.

[2] Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. [3] For I was very glad when brethren came and testified to your truth, that is, how you are walking in truth. [4] I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.
May you increase in all you do!!!
