Rise Up and Walk

Just about two weeks ago, CURE had an amazing opportunity to share its mission of healing kids and proclaiming the Gospel to a crowd of over 10,000 at the Uprise festival in Shippensburg, PA.  We showed up with our now famous CURE booth and a simple goal:  help 15 kids rise up and walk.

The weekend was a blur of amazing opportunities, challenges, and experiences.  We were able to pull off a live Skype broadcast with our hospital in Honduras, where Hector, our CUREkids coordinator, introduced us to Carlos, a patient who had recently undergone a foot surgery to correct his condition.  The crowd was ecstatic to meet one of our kids. That, combined with an amazing message from Tony Nolan, kicked off what would prove to be an unforgettable weekend.  Later that evening, the CURE VIP tent was honored to host singer/songwriter Jon Foreman, best known as the front man for the band Switchfoot.  He signed autographs and performed a fantastic acoustic set from within the tent.

The next day proved to be even more exciting with a truly phenomenal outpouring from the festival goers, support from the bands, and another great message from Tony.  By late Saturday evening, we had raised enough support to heal 14 of the 15 kids we set out to heal.  With only a single artist’s set left to play, we made a last appeal to the audience, supported once again by Tony Nolan.   Judging from my vantage point on stage, a surge of support that immediately created a line 40 people deep at the CURE booth put us over the top.

With the support of amazing partners like Hello Somebody and Word FM, we were able to meet our goal.  I myself had the pleasure of announcing our accomplishment to the crowed right after TobyMac got off stage… well sort of … he came back out, riding on the back of Uprise promoter (and my good friend) Scott Brown, to help us celebrate our accomplishment.

Needless to say, God showed up in an amazing way and continues to reaffirm His promise that if you have faith great enough, there is no task that is impossible.  Thanks to all of those folks who supported our mission at the Uprise Festival!
