CURE's hospital in San Pedro Sula is transforming the lives of children with disabilities and their families in Honduras through medical and spiritual healing.

•  About the Hospital

  CURE International began providing medical care for children with disabilities in San Pedro Sula, Honduras in 2004. Dr. Gustavo Vasquez, CURE’s Medical Director, would operate weekly clinics in area hospitals. However, it was always CURE’s hope to eventually build a standalone hospital in order to more effectively meet the needs of the Honduran people.

  Thanks to two generous supporters, the dream of a standalone hospital became a reality in 2008. A businessman in Honduras donated the land for the new hospital and Rick Melson, a residential homebuilder from Florida, agreed to be the project manager, providing seed money and lending his 35 years of construction expertise to the project. In addition to these contributions, a group of local architects and engineers agreed to donate their time to prepare the architectural plans for the facility.

  Since the inception of its work in Honduras, the 20-bed hospital has seen more than 13,000 patients and performed more than 1,600 surgeries. Specializing in pediatric orthopedics, the hospital is the best-equipped orthopedic surgical facility in Honduras, and possibly all of Central America.

  CURE also regularly sends teams of American physicians, nurses, physical therapists and dentists to Honduras provide care and perform surgery. Each team treats about 100 children and performs about 40 surgeries.
