About Matthews
Last January, Matthews was injured while riding on a crowded public bus with his grandmother, Beatrice. He was only three months old when his right leg got crushed by a car seat. Beatrice didn’t realize how serious his injury was until she got home and examined the damage. Matthews was taken to a local children’s hospital where he had a cast applied, but since they didn't set his bones, it failed to heal his fracture and over time his leg became severely deformed. Beatrice lost hope, believing nothing could be done to help her grandson. One day some members of her church paid her a visit and told her about Beit CURE Hospital in Lusaka. Beatrice followed the advice she was given and took Matthews to Beit CURE where he was admitted for surgery. If the first operation fails, he could possibly need an amputation. We hope and pray that it doesn’t come to that and that there is still a chance for Matthews’ leg to be healed. Please join us!

Day 69Matthews came to clinic and had his cast changed yesterday. It was hard to get a good photo while he was moving around during the process, but this shot gives an idea of how much improvement Matthew's leg has made. He will continue wearing a cast until his next check-up in eight weeks. http://bit.ly/11AcdLX
Thursday April 18, 2013- Day 62Matthews came to his check-up yesterday, ready to get rid of his cast. We will get to see the results when he returns next Wednesday for a follow-up!

Friday March 22, 2013 - Day 12Matthews Musaka has been doing fine, so he was sent home today. He'll return in March for a check-up.

Monday February 18, 2013- Day 7Matthews and his grandmother showed up in the children's ward today. His toes were swollen from the tightness of his cast, so it was partially cut to release some of the pressure. He will stay in the ward until the cast can be replaced.
