About Chitsanzo
Parents can be very strict about going to school. Some say the only way their child will stay home from school is if they are too sick to even get out the door to the bus. For most parents, being unprepared for a test or just not feeling like going to school is not a good enough excuse, but I’m sure every parent would be sympathetic to a child wanting to miss school for being bullied due to a prominent birth defect. Chitsanzo Victory’s father was, as Chitsanzo was born with a cleft lip.
The average age to start school in Malawi is seven. Chitsanzo is twelve and has yet to go to school because of his cleft lip. When he was first enrolled in school, he came home in tears because of the nasty things his peers said to and about him when they saw his lip. His father decided after that day that an education was not worth the pain and grief his son would be put through by his cruel classmates. Now, Chitsanzo’s biggest problem is eating, as he struggles to keep food in his mouth.
Soon all of his problems will be alleviated. Chitsanzo will finally be able to go to school and he won’t ever have to worry about eating issues again. I’m sure both he and his dad are very excited that this day is finally coming. Chitsanzo is excited to go to school so he can grow up to be a doctor one day, helping other kids achieve their dreams despite their physical circumstances.

Tuesday October 2, 2012 - Day 170We caught up with Chitsanzo at our clinic in Salima, he is doing really well. As you can see from the pictures, he looks completely different from the boy that we first met when he checked into CURE Malawi. Thanks for donating and supporting him along his journey.
Thursday September 6, 2012 - Day 91Chitsanzo's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 08/28/2012 - Chitsanzo has gone home to continue healing after his big surgery. We'll see him again in a couple months and hopefully by then he'll be able to smile!
