About Lawrence

If ten-year-old Lawrence Willias was an animal, he would be a just about the cutest flamingo I’ve ever seen. Lawrence has a condition that has locked his knee at a bent, nearly ninety-degree angle so if he stands he has to stand on one leg, like a flamingo! His mom, Odetta, said all of this started when her son was about five. His left leg started swelling and causing him a lot of pain. He had a biopsy to identify the reason for the pain and swelling, but before they even got the results back, his knee stiffened and locked in the position it is currently. His family, he’s the last of seven children, have been very supportive and helpful, in fact he is able to go to school because of one of his brothers, who carries him to and from the school house. It’s a good thing he is still going to school too, because there is plenty more ahead of him, as he plans to become a nurse after all of his run-ins with hospitals because of his condition; Lawrence wants to help other kids get better, just like he’s about to do!

  5. Day 97Lawrence's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 09/10/2012 - Lawrence went to the Lilongwe clinic! We saw him and got new pictures which we will be putting up shortly. He had his cast taken off and has been prescribed physio to help strengthen his leg. He's doing really well otherwise. It was great to see him again!
