Cameron lives in Malawi and has infant clubfoot, and in Malawi the sort of specialty medical care Cameron needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Cameron who have little hope for the future.

Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Cameron grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Cameron has a curable disability! But you can change Cameron's life forever.

About Cameron

It’s not very often that we have children who are not African, come for treatment at CURE Malawi, in fact, I’ve never seen any. That doesn’t mean that children of other nationalities are exempt from birth defect and accidents though. Our newest clubfoot kid, Cameron Maclean, is of Indian decent and at three weeks old, his mother, Catriona, has brought him in to have his right clubbed foot fixed.

When Cameron was born, his mother realized there was something different about his right foot, but did not seem particularly concerned, as she thought it was rather normal for children to have slight curves in their feet right after birth. Cameron is her first child so she was trying not to be too crazy as first time moms tend to be. Catriona’s cousin, however, knew the foot was not normal and encouraged her to take Cameron to CURE, where she had been on school trips before, to have it checked. Thankfully Catriona brought him and we were able to begin the first stage of clubfoot treatment on him.

There is no reason this little guy should live with a clubbed foot, especially not when there is such quality treatment right in his family’s backyard. Deformities and disabilities do not discriminate by ethnicity, and neither do we; all kids should have the opportunity to be healthy and happy!

Treatment Note

Cameron is suffering with clubfoot, but as an infant our doctors have determined that his condition can be treated through a less-expensive multi-stepped casting process called the Ponseti method. As a result, Cameron's care will be reflected in (instead of one surgery) a series of updates throughout the casting process.
