Henry lives in Malawi and has bowed legs, and in Malawi the sort of specialty medical care Henry needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Henry who have little hope for the future.

Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Henry grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Henry has a curable disability! But you can change Henry's life forever.

About Henry

We have a lot of young children, probably between the ages of two and six, that come to CURE to have bowed legs fixed. It has even become pretty normal to see little kids hobbling around on their tiny bowed limbs, but I have never seen a an older child, a teenager, who still suffered from the condition, at least not until today. Fifteen-year-old Henry Ntambalika has come to us seeking a remedy for the bowed legs he has had since he began to walk.

Everything was going just swimmingly until Henry was ready to start walking. It was then that his family realized his legs were not correctly shaped, and it caused him to wobble a little when he walked. I’m sure his family thought he would grow out of it, and they were right to think that because a lot of children do grow out of bowed legs. It just so happened that Henry was not one of those kids and now here he is, a young man in high school who still has the swagger of a toddler. His friends often taunt him because of his condition, but he doesn’t let it affect him. He still plays soccer and would like to be a doctor when he finishes his education.

Henry is admittedly nervous about his surgery and he confessed that he wished there was a way to fix his legs without surgery, but his desire to have them fixed is way greater than his fear of the process. Look on the bright side Henry, now you will be able to address the fears and concerns of the future patients you either prescribe or perform surgery on, with personal experience!
