Calvin lives in Kenya and has a leg deformity, and in Kenya the sort of specialty medical care Calvin needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Calvin who have little hope for the future.
Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Calvin grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Calvin has a curable disability! But you can change Calvin's life forever.
You can help

You can help Calvin right now. Maybe you can afford the $3630 that will provide the care he needs. Maybe you can offer $30. Or maybe you can introduce Calvin to others who can help...

About Calvin

Calvin and his parents were in our hospital, not to find out what Calvin’s condition was, but more so to try and see if there was any non-surgical way of dealing with it. “We have been to enough hospitals, and they have been telling us the same thing,” his mother Grace explained to us. I could tell that her and her husband Daniel were worried about their little boy. As Grace dressed Calvin, her husband just looked down, as if we had dashed his hopes in some way.

Calvin’s problem began a while back, and his mother noted it, but an assumption kept her from taking him to a doctor. Grace seemed to blame herself as she said, “My legs were like his when I was his age, so when I saw his were the same, I convinced my husband that the condition would go away by itself as he grew older.” You could tell they were nervous about the procedures, about how much it would cost, and about how much time it would take to have the condition treated completely. Calvin, on the other hand, was busy playing with his little sister, clearly oblivious, and in the moment you could see the beauty of being a child, completely worry-free.

Our little guy will need a number of surgeries before the doctors are able to completely correct his condition, muscular dysplasia, which has caused all the bones in his legs to appear curved. To fully correct the condition, the doctors will need to do staged surgeries. As we watched Calvin run about, we were sure that the condition had not begun to take a toll on him, and we thank God that his parents are now planning to get him surgery before the condition gets worse. We know this is going to be a long journey for Calvin and cannot wait to get started!!
