About Valary
Valary is one cute, spunky little girl. Her story begins with an innocent attempt of wanting to play with her friends but the ending is tragic. It all started one cold morning; her mother’s instructions were to play inside for fear of her catching sick. As she was playing alone, she heard her little girl friends outside her house; she was exited and quickly forgot her mother’s instructions. She ran out with intent to join them but unfortunately ran into a cooking pot full of hot water. What followed were painful screams. As Viola quickly ran to her daughters rescue, the first thing she thought about was to remove her daughter’s sweaters. As she began to undress her, flesh from Valary’s arm came with it. They immediately rushed to hospital where they ended up being admitted for one month.
The burn wound began to heal and the hospital discharged them, giving Viola careful instructions on post care for the burns. “The thought of handling Valery’s hand often scared me, so I did not immediately follow the doctors discharge instructions.” By the time Viola finally mastered enough courage to begin to exercise her daughters hand, it had already began growing in the wrong position, so every attempt to correct it led to painful cracks, on her daughters arm. So she stopped. Unfortunately by the time they returned to hospital after the wound was completely dry, Valerie’s hand had a stubborn contracture that could not be reversed by exercise, she was advised that her daughter needed surgery and got word about CURE.
As her mother was busy narrating to me the events that had led them to us, Valary managed to keep herself busy, playing under the table while singing to herself, loudly practicing her A B C’s. She seemed not to care about what had brought them to hospital. From my first time I saw her, I definitely loved her and her bubbly personality. I look forward to seeing her again when she comes for her surgery in October.

Thursday April 11, 2013 - Day 143Lots of kids missed their appointment today and Valery was amongst those who did. The only thing I can promise for now is to try call her mother and let her know that we will be around in March.

Day 52Dear Valery was a shadow of her bubbly self today. I don't think she is too found of doctors anymore. But we thank God that her graft has taken up so well and all her mother needs to do is to intensify on her physiotherapy. We will see them again in January http://bit.ly/Xooq50
