About Mary
Mary Wambui Kuria has something in common with Elton John, Madonna, Condoleeza Rice and many more; she has a beautiful gap between her two front teeth. And when she smiled, joy filled the room. When I asked about her leg, her parents told me that she was born normal, but they started noticing problems when she was about three years old.
After visiting many hospitals and not getting the cure they had intended to find, they finally decided that the best way to help their daughter was to enroll her in a special school where the teachers were trained to meet her needs. They stumbled upon a wonderful school called Joytown in Thika. Since April 2011, Mary has been attending school there and I could clearly tell that she loved it. We are so thankful the school brought her to our mobile clinic.
There isn't anything we can do with her cerebral palsy, but there are lots of things we can do to improve her quality of life. While at CURE, she will be receiving a bilateral hamstring release and a left and right Achilles tendon release. Both surgeries will relieve discomfort and pain for Mary! We are so looking forward to the end of August when we can start our healing journey with her!

Day 243This is the moment our doctors realized Mary was bending her knees a bit to help assist her in getting her feet flat on the floor! With the new brace, her knees will be kept straight and will train and stretch her feet to go flat on there own which is exactly what we want! http://bit.ly/YzqgyW

Day 243Mary is in need of a new brace, called a GRAFO. It will help stabilize her knee when she walks. We will review her again in a couple of months to see how the new brace is doing, other than that our doctor was pleased! http://bit.ly/VNlizA

Monday October 8, 2012- Day 63Mary's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 10/04/2012 - Our sweet girl is leaving us today! We will see her again at our mobile clinic in Thika for a review and check up!! Pray for her and her family as they head home and continue in the recovery process!
