Joshua lives in Kenya and has a hand deformity, and in Kenya the sort of specialty medical care Joshua needs is scarce. There are 100 million children in the world just like Joshua who have little hope for the future.
Many can't play with their friends or go to school, and when Joshua grows up, things that we hope for like marriage or finding a job will be difficult or impossible...all because Joshua has a curable disability! But you can change Joshua's life forever.
You can help

What can you do?

You can help Joshua right now. Maybe you can afford the $1000 that will provide the care he needs. Maybe you can offer $30. Or maybe you can introduce Joshua to others who can help...

About Joshua

Joshua’s mother was not very talkative during our meeting; its moments like that I wish Joshua were old enough to tell me for himself what he thought about his condition and how it had affected his life. I would have loved to know what it meant for him to be different from the other children his age and have to make due with just one hand. Unfortunately this is where I have to get creative, being that his mother didn’t have a lot of information for me, and Joshua being two years old, I had to do some research into his condition.

This is what I found out about Radius Hemmimelia. It is a condition affecting the skeletal system; the radius is one of two bones in our lower arm. The ulna is what causes you to move your pinkie and your radius is what enables your thumb to move about in circles. With Radius Hemmimelia the bone is either missing all together or severely underdeveloped. In Joshua’s case his right hand and wrist are disfigured due to the lack of growth in his radius. The cause of the condition is not known though in several cases it can be associated with genetics. With his mother being so quiet and reserved, and only shyly smiling to my questions, I was left guessing whether she had seen the condition before in her family.

When they come to our hospital in June, our doctors will discuss the best possible way of treating him. Meanwhile, lets pray that mom is brave enough to follow through with her son’s appointment and for their preparations to travel from their home area in Machakos in Eastern Kenya to Kijabe safely.
