About Newton
Newton is not a typical twelve-year-old boy. Although he’s extremely shy and quiet, even by his mother’s confession, he’s his little sister’s hero. As her big brother, he’s extremely caring and doesn’t let his deformed left arm keep him from playing with her. Doctors refer to his condition as a “gunstock deformity.” Simply put, it is a condition where an arm which had previously been broken heals, but in the wrong angle.
In 2007 after falling from his bicycle, Newton’s arm broke. He was immediately taken to the hospital and casted, but when the plaster was removed, his mother realized that his arm had healed in the wrong position. When she returned him to hospital, the doctors told her that it would correct itself with time. Well, it’s been 3 years, and his arm remains unchanged. So it’s not surprising that when Newton’s mom heard about doctors’ concerns with bone deformities in children, she did not hesitate to have Newton checked.
He is currently in 6th grade, but hasn’t been able to perform as well as he’d like. His teachers understand that he can’t do some activities because of the pain he feels when using his left hand. At home, his little sister is always ready and willing to help him out. And he’s thankful that he still can play his favorite sport, soccer, but he admitted that he misses handball, which he used to play very well. Newton’s prayer now is that the operation will help him regain full use of his arm, so that he can be free of limitations, getting back to doing everything a twelve year old should be able to do.

Day 51Well guess who showed up at 5 this evening? Good ol' "Fig Newton" :) His dad explained to us that Newton's grandmother had passed on (his dad's mom) so they weren't able to make it until now. And after getting his cast off, pins out, and bandage on, Newton & his dad headed right back to Meru. We really need to pray for them as they journey back tonight in order to finish the arrangements for his grandmother's funeral. http://bit.ly/u19HbZ
