About Effy
Effy has the advantage of a good support system, not only from her parents, but also from her siblings and little playmates. However, it was not always like that.
As a fifth born, Effy was diagnosed with bilateral clubfeet, hydrocephalous, and poor eyesight. For the first two conditions, the respective treatment began immediately. Pamela, Effy’s mother, had her daughter’s feet plastered for some time and observed positive change, but she didn’t understand why Effy still refused to walk or even stand after turning one. Thinking that her daughter was being stubborn, Pamela tried everything, including beating. At two years old, Effy finally began to stand, but only on her toes. Ignorant of what was going on with her daughter, Pamela sought counsel from friends and family. Out of all the counsel she was given, she was convinced that the multiple problems her daughter had were due to poor family planning on her and her husband’s part.
Luckily Pamela now understands that her daughter has a condition that makes it painful for her to walk on her feet. Her Achilles tendon in both of her feet is tight and requires a procedure to loosen them so that she can walk without pain. Effy’s parents now have only one wish: for Effy to walk on her own. “Carrying her all the time is becoming hard for me as she continues to grow up and add weight. I want her to be able to go to school like her brothers and sisters, but that is only possible if she starts to walk on her own, “ says Pamela.

JSON RSS- Day 590We managed to talk to Effy's aunt today. We told her when we will be returning to Kisumu and of course expressed the desire to have Effy there so that we can follow her up. God willing, we have a date with this precious young lady in June.
Wednesday April 3, 2013 - Day 519She was supposed to come back three months from March last year, but there are still no sign of her. We will try to reach her one more time and remind her that we will have a clinic in her home area in March.

Tuesday March 13, 2012- Day 204Effy 's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 07/03/2012 - Remember Effy's statement about her love for her "new shoes"? Well, clearly she was excited about her plastic braces. During the clinic today, her plastic braces were all worn out and the orthopedic technicians had to organize to get her new ones or repair her current ones. Otherwise, she is doing so well and I can't wait to see her again in July

Day 21Effy's operation was a lot quicker than Dr. Ndasi thought...he lengthened both of her Achilles tendons and then was able to release both of her knees with just small incisions. So after molds were made of her legs for braces, she was casted up and is now recovering! http://bit.ly/n6VNn6
