About Kevin
Some kids are really shy when they come in to be interviewed. Others are overly outgoing and interactive. Kevin is neither. He exists somewhere in the middle, humming along to the beat of his own drum, completely comfortable in his own skin, even the burned part.
One night when Kevin was 6 months old, he was asleep on his bed. His older brother came in, and because the room was too dark to see, he lit a lighter to guide him. Unfortunately he didn’t realize how close he was to the bed, and when the lighter sparked a flame, it immediately caught the sheets on fire. Kevin’s life was spared, but his left foot was not. The scarring serves as a reminder of the accident and has prevented Kevin from the normal use of both legs, and for a boy like him, that’s a really big deal. His mom described her little boy as “very active”, always climbing trees and wanting to play games. School is a one-hour walk from his house, and although he’s been given an extra time allowance because of his disability, he prefers to leave when the other kids do no matter the struggle he endures by doing so.
When he gets older, Kevin wants to buy a vehicle, maybe because he’s tired of taking so long to get to where he wants to go. Regardless, his next destination is Kijabe, and it’s not a vehicle that will await him but a surgery that will help him get farther than he ever has before.

Wednesday December 19, 2012 - Day 459Kevin's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 11/21/2012 - Another no show, I like telling myself that the reason they miss so many follow ups is because they are doing well. Could we not give up just yet? Lets try one last time in November.

Monday December 19, 2011 - Day 111Kevin's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 12/15/2011 - Kevin came for his follow up and doctors were really pleased with his progress! The pins in his foot were removed & then he was recasted. Next review is planned for our next mobile clinic in December, so mark your calendars and keep those prayers comin' :)
