Gabriel's Funding is Closed

Gabriel and his sister Gabriela are both premature twins. Marbella, their mother and single parent, had a high-risk pregnancy 14 years ago due to a longstanding medical problem. “There was a moment when I thought I would lose both of them,” explained Marbella, adding, “I am so grateful to have them. They have lighted my life!”

Born with cerebral palsy, Gabriel’s brain suffered neurological damages due to an internal bleeding. His sister has been a big support for him over the years, remaining by his side, taking care of him, and even helping him to learn how to read and write. His condition really affected his motor functions, so he finally started trying to walk just a couple years ago, but wasn't successful. Because his legs had remained in such a limited position for so long, his tendons grew rigid, preventing him from fully stretching out his legs. His mother took him to physical therapy at the public hospital, but they explained to her that he needed a small surgical procedure to lengthen his Achilles tendon. That’s when they were referred to us.

Our doctors found that he not only needs a tendon lengthening but also treatment for clubfoot. So after we get Gabriel’s legs stretched out and working better, the plan is to fix his clubfoot in a couple months after that.
