About Alexa

Alexa was born prematurely at 28 weeks with a lot of complications: breathing problems (due to an immature respiratory system), gastrointestinal problems, and an internal bleeding in the brain that resulted in her having cerebral palsy.

Little Alexa was referred to us by her pediatrician, because she also has arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC), which is basically a congenital contracture that limits her foot joints from having a full range of movement, thus causing clubfeet. Upon her arrival to CURE Honduras Hospital, she was quickly scheduled for a tenotomy (minor surgery to release and lengthen the Achilles tendon) so that her feet could be moved into a normal position, and at the same time, she will be treated with casts for her clubfoot condition. We know she has had a tough year, but we pray that our treatments will improve her life condition and she will grow to be a healthy girl! :)

Treatment Note

Alexa is suffering with clubfoot, but as an infant our doctors have determined that her condition can be treated through a less-expensive multi-stepped casting process called the Ponseti method. As a result, Alexa's care will be reflected in (instead of one surgery) a series of updates throughout the casting process.
