About Jose
Jose was born with a deformed right leg. The part above the knee is normal, but the part below the knee is very deformed and turned upward so that his foot is by his knee. This obviously makes it impossible for him to learn how to walk. When his parents first brought him to CURE shortly after he was born, it was determined that an amputation would be his best option so that he could walk with a prosthesis. The surgery wouldn't be necessary until he was actually ready to learn to walk, so now that he is one year old and crawling well and now pulling up to stand, he is ready for his surgery so that he can get his prosthesis and learn how to walk. Despite his difficult circumstance, Jose's parents are thankful that he is having this surgery now and will learn to walk from a young age. This leg will be the only leg that he will ever know, so it will be normal to him and he will be able to lead a virtually normal life after his surgery, being able to walk, run, attend school, and do everything else for the rest of his life with great function and independence!
