Several months ago, Suany started to notice that she had increasingly worsening hip pain on her left side. She attributed it to another kid falling on top of her, as she remembered this occurring about the same time as the pain started. When she began to walk with a limp, her mother insisted that she go see a doctor to further examen this condition. Suany lives with her mother in Limpera, but she has no father as he was killed. Much of the time when Suany is not in school, she comes to stay with her aunt here in San Pedro since her home situation isn't good. Her aunt didn't go into detail, but she said that it's better when Suany stays with her. So she took Suany to the public hospital here and was told by the orthopedist that her condition was congenital and that she would need surgery to correct the deformity of her hip. She was given a reference to come here to CURE for a second opinion, and it's sure good that she did. By coming here, Sunany's future looks different now; upon examining the x-rays, Dr. Jay found that she has a large tumor above her left hip, and this is causing the pain that she has. It doesn't appear cancerous, and since she has had it for a while he is almost certain that it is benign. However, to be sure of this, he will take some tissue out when he removes it in surgery and will have it tested in the labs. Before the surgery, Dr. Jay wants to talk with his colleagues about what the best surgery and treatment option is for Suany, so her surgery date is not set for sure yet; we only know that it's going to be somewhere in the end of February or the beginning of March. After all of the needed information is received, a sure date will be set. Suany and her aunt are very grateful to have come to CURE and to know exactly what situation they are facing. Although it was scary to find out that she has a tumor, they are trusting for the best results and know that they are receiving the best care that is possible for them.
