About Rebeca

Rebeca is the happiest and most talkative little patient I've seen in clinic yet. Happy as she is, everything's not perfect. She was born with a lipomyelomeningocele, a form of spina bifida, which was surgically removed five years ago. Problems in the feet and other parts of the body are a common with spina bifida, and as a result, Rebeca's foot is deformed,and it inhibits her walking ability, putting pressure in the wrong place and causing an ulcer. This is difficult for her as she cannot physically keep up with kids at school in sports and other activities. It makes everything just a little more difficult, and it's hard for her mother to see her bright daughter physically fall behind. The day they came into clinic, bother she and her mother were beaming with smiles, filled with gratitude that Rebeca's foot will be restored to its proper function!

Rebeca's foot was put into a cast so the ulcer would heal, but upon arrival today for her checkup, it was clear that it still did not heal. But that didn't stop her smiles! She is now in a walking boot until her scheduled surgery on October 3rd.
