About Selo
I cannot get over how stunning this 13 year old girl is. I wish her photo did her justice. There is something about her that captures you. It could have something to do with the fact that she doesn't like to speak, or that a flicker of a smile on her face makes you stop what you're doing to notice.
Selo comes to CURE with a group of kids from CBR (Community Based Rehabilitation). It's a non-profit organization that teaches families with children that have disabilities how to thrive in society regardless of the condition of the child.
When I ask her questions, she will only relate her answers in a whisper back to the main caregiver from CBR. The caregiver tells me that Selo is an excellent student. She is in Grade 3 and wants to become a teacher. Her condition is from birth. It's been hard on her family of 7.
Aside from her leg deformities, she does know one truth about herself. "I am beautiful," she answers in a whisper. She will need 3 surgeries to correct her legs, which are almost turned completely backwards. The first two will be performed on her right ankle and foot in a few weeks when she returns.
