About Birhan
Birhan is a charming 14 year old that unfortunately lives on the streets of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. He supports himself by shining shoes, and despite his sad situation, he is doing his best to maintain his education. All of this would be heartbreaking enough without the fact that he is living with a clubfoot, making an already very difficult situation nearly impossible.
Thankfully, Birhan made a friend named Aschalew (he is the one standing next to him in one of the photos). Aschalew told Birhan about CURE and urged him to come here to receive free treatment. Birhan accepted the suggestion and is now scheduled for 2 operations in the next couple of weeks. There is a possibility of a third surgery if necessary, but for now we'll be praying for the success of the first two.
When Birhan is not working or going to school, he likes to play with his friends. He says that he doesn't get bullied for his condition, and when I asked what he likes most about himself he said, "everything." He is looking forward to working hard when he leaves CURE. His story is very touching, and I wish everyone could witness this boy's attitude and demeanor about life. He is an inspiration.

Day 388Birhan was here yesterday for a follow-up. He is doing well and his foot looks good. The cast was removed and he got a supporting shoe(brace) the doctors advice him to walk without crutches. http://bit.ly/YcyuMC
Thursday April 11, 2013- Day 345Birhan is here for his follow-up today! His right foot looks really good and the doctor wants to cast him for another 6 weeks. He will return then for follow up in mid-April. http://bit.ly/WguZcK
Wednesday February 27, 2013 - Day 312Birhan Agaznew was discharged from CURE Ethiopia and is scheduled for a future follow up appointment. When he returns the cast will be removed. Learn more at http://bit.ly/xJxkiz
Friday January 25, 2013 - Day 302He had a good surgery and is now working through casting his leg to keep it healing straight. He has a great time watching 'Ethiopian Idol' in the ward, and also spent some time sitting outside watching the other kids today. He is really excited to get walking again soon.

Monday January 14, 2013- Day 99We're going to go ahead and put Birhan's case on standby while we're waiting for him to arrive for his next follow-up appointment. Please keep him in your prayers. He still lives on the streets which doesn't make the healing process easier, but his attitude is incredible which might just make up for that.
