Nurhussein is a very quiet young man with a pretty serious disposition. It took a few good tries to get him to smile, but when I finally did it was worth the wait. He has been disabled since birth. He has two club feet, making it very difficult to run around like most boys his age. Our spiritual director, Mesfin, explained to me that Nurhussein speaks a different dialect of Amharic than most others here in Addis because he is from a muslim village, where the people there are quickly dying off. Soon there may be no one left.

His favorite thing to do is watch television or movies, but I have a feeling that when he is able to get around on both feet, that may change. I asked him what his favorite show is, and he said it's "Like a Kid." I looked it up so that I could get a better idea of what he likes, but I couldn't find it; sorry that I can't elaborate on that.

He lives at home with his parents and 3 siblings. His father is a farmer, and his mother is a housewife. I asked him what he wants to do whenever he finishes school, and he is not quite sure yet. I told him that's totally normal. When he returns to class he will be in the 5th grade. He is very excited to go back.
