About Leikum
My first impression of Leikum was great. I like to run laps around the balcony because you don't get much exercise when you work, live, and sleep at a hospital. I saw Leikum observing me from the staircase. It was pretty apparent that he was longing to run as well. Not knowing whether or not it was wise to urge him to run, I just high fived him as I passed by. The next thing I knew, Leikum was gone around the corner, running much faster than I expected. When I told the doctor this, he was very surprised. Leikum is an impressive little boy.
He not only runs despite his deformed foot and ankle, he is constantly smiling and has big dreams for his future. I saw Leikum standing outside of the children's ward, and he proceeded to practice his English with me, and he helped me to learn a few more words in Amharic as well. I need all the help I can get. He is only in Grade 2, and he is very bright. He plans to become a pastor when he is older.
This is Leikum's third surgery. He will receive one more in the future to correct his hand, which is bent sideways. For this previous surgery to correct his foot, he says "Thank you very much." He is a joy to have around the hospital, and it is CURE's privilege to serve him.

Thursday May 3, 2012 - Day 79 Leikum's follow up appointment has been scheduled for 09/04/2012 - He will be back when a hand specialist comes to visit in September so he can get that looked at as well.
Wednesday May 2, 2012 - Day 79 Leikum has arrived at CURE Ethiopia - He's out of the wheelchair this time!
