Haiti Team Working Nonstop

Here is the latest news….

The Haiti Relief Team has set up shop at the Hopital du la Comunaute Haitienne in Port-au-Prince.  It has been working nonstop to save as many lives as possible.  The biggest challenge right now is gangrene has set in with patients.  Dr. Scott Nelson reports everyone on the team is safe.

At this moment, an additional 25+ relief workers and supplies are flying into Haiti. Once they are in the country, they’ll join the CURE relief team.  Other teams are currently being mobilized.

Supplies are being sent from a number of different sources.  MedShare is sending 600 cases of supplies. The CURE hospital in the Dominican Republic is sending supplies both in the air and on land.

We’d like to send a special thanks to the Boulos family, who has been hosting the medical team.  They’ve also been a tremendous help in arranging logistics.

More information is coming; will post as I get more….

An Afghan-American Doctor’s Passion for His Homeland

Dr. Akram Babury is associate director of pulmonary medicine at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in New York City.  In 2007, he went to  Afghanistan to volunteer at the CURE International Hospital of Kabul.

The trip to Afghanistan was more than just your everyday international volunteer outing for Dr. Babury.  It marked a return to the land of his birth, a country from which had been forced to flee in 1982.

Since his first visit, he’s returned two more times, and his passion for helping the people of his homeland has only grown.

In this video, Dr. Babury talks about his partnership with CURE Kabul and how a late night phone call got it all started.

You can also read more about his compelling story by going here.

Dr. Akram (Mohammad) Babury, was also featured by a N.Y. station about his work at CURE Kabul. You can watch it here.

Haiti Update

IMG_8244_resizeGood Monday from Pennsylvania. We were hit with a major (for us) snowstorm over the weekend, so it looks like we will have a White Christmas this year!

We have some news from a much warmer location.  Dr. Scott Nelson from our hospital in the Dominican Republic just updated his blog about his team’s most recent trip to Haiti.

You can read it here.

More news to follow this week.
