Get Well Soon – CUREkids

Watch the Get Well video here: http://www.youtube.com/cureinternational#p/u/7/fVLSJO8ojVk

CUREkids has brought the work of CURE to your inbox and Facebook wall through the lives of the kids we’re privileged to serve, but now our kids want to hear from you. That’s why we’re pleased to announce CUREkids Get Well messages!

Now your family has the chance to share words of encouragement with a child in a CURE hospital. Here’s how:

  • Go to http://cure.org/curekids/getwell
  • Fill out a personal message to a child currently in treatment at CURE hospital.
  • Optionally, upload pictures to send along with your message.
  • You can even link a YouTube video to your message.
  • Click Send, and your message will be sent our our CUREkids coordinator.
  • We’ll notify when your Get Well message is received.

Get Well messages are a great new way to become part of the ministry of CURE International. They’re also a wonderful opportunity to connect your own children to kids thousands of miles away that need their love and encouragement.

So what are you waiting for?
There are kids in CURE hospitals that need your encouragement today.

Send a Get Well message!

Post Script: A Real-Life Example

Last week, I sent this get well message to a young girl at CURE Kenya named Kiloret and received the following reply this weekend.

Hi Mr. Worrall –

My name is Jenny. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to send a Get Well message to Kiloret. Her mom seriously couldn’t stop thanking me, and her and the other Maasai people in the room kept raving about your picture with Eliana…

Kiloret, meet Joel & his baby Eliana

I’m pretty sure her mom loves you…she couldn’t stop saying “Asante”. And the guy on the right is our surgery tech, Peter, who graciously translated your message into Maasai…how awesome is that!?

Thanks so much for investing in Kiloret & CUREkids. You’ve blessed Kiloret and her family in a way I can’t actually express…

His,
Jenny England ::: CUREkids Coordinator – Kenya

Spiritual centers of excellence

I’ve written before about our ministry to the mothers and parents of the children we treat at the CURE Children’s Hospital of Uganda. It occurred to me this morning, as I watched our staff and about 20 of our parents dance, praise, and worship together, that the uniqueness and importance of the spiritual center of excellence at a CURE hospital is as significant as the medical breakthroughs and our quality of care. CURE Uganda Highlighted on UK Channel 4 “Unreported World”

Last night in the United Kingdom, the television program Unreported World highlighted the amazing work of CURE Uganda in a 30-minute report entitled “Uganda’s Miracle Babies.” Viewers were taken inside the incredible work of CURE’s hospital in Uganda to learn about hydrocephalus and to see and experience the plight and hope of children and families who come to Mbale for the life-saving treatment that CURE Uganda provides.

This story is a must watch for everyone who is a part of CURE: medical professionals, staff, and supporters alike. You can find the entire broadcast online by clicking on the image below or by going to this link http://www.channel4.com/programmes/unreported-world/4od#3244882

Our special thanks goes out to Jenny Kleeman and producer Suemay Oram who told this story to the world. Also thanks to Daniel Bogado for reaching out to CURE Uganda Executive Director, Derek Johnson in June to spark this project. We are sincerely grateful.

CURE Hydrocephalus Congressional Testimony Video

For those who didn’t get a chance to see CURE’s testimony before the US Congressional Subcommittee on Global Health, here’s the video content from C-SPAN.

CURE to provide expert testimony before US Congress

Next Tuesday, August 2, 2011, there will be a hearing titled “Hydrocephalus Treatment in Uganda: Leading the Way to Help Children,” held by the Subcommittee on Africa, Global Health, and Human Rights, part of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.   Three expert witnesses have been called to testify at this hearing.  Benjamin Warf, M.D., of Children’s Hospital Boston and the founding medical director of CURE Uganda, and Steven Schiff, M.D., of Pennsylvania State University, have both been called.  These two experts have done extensive research on the causes and treatment of hydrocephalus.  CURE Uganda has been a focal point for much of this research.

The third witness is Jim Cohick, the Senior Vice President of Specialty Programs.  Jim has been working tirelessly to expand the CURE Hydrocephalus program and bring healing to more children afflicted by this deadly condition.

This opportunity to testify before Congress represents a critical next step in the growth of global health programs to address infant hydrocephalus.  Congress regularly provides aid for life-saving medical treatment in third-world countries; through this hearing, we hope to see Congress inspired to join in the cause of fighting hydrocephalus in their future developing world healthcare initiatives.

Please keep Benjamin, Steven, and Jim in prayer as they prepare for this hearing.  Pray as well that the hearing will ultimately result in more children cured of hydrocephalus.  Thank you!
